SI: NFC scout says about Witten "He’s almost resigned now to catching the ball and falling down."

He hasn't come close to 800 yards either of the last two seasons.

Witten's still very valuable, but it's also true that he's not the guy he was. His yards per reception the last three years: 11.7, 11.0, 9.3. He was down at 9.4 in 2012 but he also caught 110 passes that year. We'll see if he can bounce back this year, but the end isn't too far away. Not sure why any of this is controversial.

Lots of reasons why his numbers were down last year. He has never been a big YAC guy, but what exactly makes him over-rated. I don't see anyone saying he is a top 5 TE anymore. His catches alone put him in the top 10 and he is one of the better blockers.

c'mon...who's eyes does that wool pull belong to?

Last year was a fiasco in all production numbers...

Ignored

There isn't a scout or GM who would take Witten(and his stats) over Gronk.

Witten catches pass, Gronk dominates the game. No team goes into a game thinking: Witten is gonna beat me.

No he's gonna catch 5 for 56 and that's about it.

Gronk has been the #1 pass catcher on a SB Champion, that wasn't anchored by a great defense. What about Witten?

Haha, he puts anyone who doesn't agree with him on "ignore". That's great! And he's comparing the NFL's best tight end, who is in his prime, to our future HOF TE who is in his mid-thirties? Gronk is a monster, but let's see how many years he can play. You constantly complain about how injury prone Romo is, but Gronk has had nagging injuries pretty much every season that he's played. He has half the receiving yards and a third as many catches as Witten after 6 seasons. I would bet money that injuries force him out of the league in the next five years. Nothing against Gronk, he's a great player and a TD machine, but Witten has done it for 13+ years, he's a professional who doesn't spend all of his free time making a fool of himself, and he's a Cowboy. If we're comparing careers, I'll take Jason Witten every time. By the way, congrats on being the first and only Cowboys fan in the world to ever say "I don't like Jason Witten". Heck, I can't even find a Commanders fan that will say that.

I'd put you on "ignore" but what would be the fun in that?

Some have no clue when it comes to a no brainer...

I don't care. As long as he gets open and catches it past the first down marker to move the sticks and then falls down.

These guys can claim all they want but Witten moves the chains. He knows how to get open and is tough as nails. Next time he drags a couple of defenders past the 1st down mark I will be sure to revisit this thread.

Damn straight. Pisses me off to no end when these cowards say something like that but don't put their name behind it. Matter of fact, I wouldn't doubt it if NO scout actually said that. How would we know either way? Total BS

I love the anonymous scout. You want to shred a future Hall Of Famer, Then at least get your man card out and put your name to it. And it's so hard to believe that a 34 year old Tight End is declining. You gotta be kidding me? That never happens. Well I see him falling down a lot this season then. They're still going to throw to him because they know he's going to catch it

Totally agree. Plus its idiotic to point at last season when Romo and Dez were out, which meant Witten was double teamed most of the time. And even when he wasn't, at least half the games were played when Weeden was in fetal position checkdown mode or Cassel was totally lost and trying to learn the offense on the fly.

I'm too lazy to look at all of them, but in Game 1 with Romo, Witten had 8 catches for 60 yards and in Game 16 with (The) Kellen Moore he had 8 for 58 yards. 8 catches per game over 16 gives you 128 for the year if you maintain it. That article is a joke.

I don't know what the heck you want in a TE but he was ranked #9 in yards and #4 in receptions for the TEs last year. I'll take that any day considering what kind of QBs he had to work with last year.

"Fans" on this board are the worst. You're throwing dirt on his grave with the clown car of QBs they trotted out last year? Come on. I don't know if he still has the magic, but going over that defender in the endzone to save a Dakota int leads me to believe there's life in the auld machine still. All these armchair experts will crap on him now and mourn his loss when the "incompetent" front office trots out another reach pick after his retirement. That guy would make a lot of NFL rosters, don't kid yourself. He's got old man game for years.

Jason Witten is Peyton Manning slow. Everytime he catches the ball it seems like he's wanting to be tackled so he doesn't have to run anywhere but the old man moves the chains.

Jason Witten is still a beast, F that unnamed scout! Try asking all the defenders if Witten is over rated. He has such great hands, if the ball is thrown anywhere near him he will catch it. Then, when he has more than one guy on him he goes down to protect he ball and his body. Just smart football from a future hall of famer.

In case you need a reminder...

Witten not being what he once was is one thing. But overrated? He's not what he once was on third down because Beasley has become that guy
