Scouts at the Senior Bowl predict Troy Smith will not go in first round of the draft. Some scouts and analysts say Smith has clearly been the best quarterback there, which seemed apparent yesterday watching the wobble on the longer passes of Michigan State's Drew Stanton. Others think he has been average and hasn't helped or hurt his stock.
-- Cleveland Plain Dealer

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio has expressed interest in the Cowboys' vacant coaching job. But he doesn't appear to be a serious candidate. Del Rio still has 2 years left on his deal in Jacksonville, and Jerry Jones hasn't asked the Jags for permission to talk to him.
-- Philadelphia Daily News

Jason Garrett has spent the last two days at the Cowboys' training complex talking with Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells, who is serving as a sounding board and consultant for the remainder of the week. According to a source, the Cowboys have been waiting to get Garrett on the staff for some time and consider him "a bright offensive mind."
-- Fort Worth Star-Telegram

The question for Curtis Martin now appears to be when rather than if. The future Hall of Fame running back, who last carried a football for the Jets more than a year ago, has been grappling with his decision to retire since having surgery on his right knee in December 2005.
-- Newsday

Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart's contact with his new coach, Ken Whisenhunt, has been limited to one phone conversation that lasted 20 minutes or so. But like everyone else connected with the organization, Leinart came away impressed.
-- Arizona Republic

The Giants have received permission to talk with Dallas quarterbacks coach Chris Palmer about their vacant quarterbacks coach job.
-- New York Daily News

Tom Condon, the agent for quarterback Byron Leftwich, said Wednesday he plans to meet with Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio sometime before the new NFL calendar year starts in March to discuss the quarterback's future.
-- Florida Times-Union

The agent for veteran Corey Dillon believes the running back wants to play next year and doesn't expect the Patriots to try to renegotiate his contract.
-- Boston Herald

Chris Henry faces a possible four-game NFL suspension after pleading guilty Thursday to an alcohol-related charge. Commissioner Roger Goodell will decide Henry's fate. A suspension would cause Henry to miss the first four games of 2007.
-- Cincinnati Enquirer

Coach Mike Tomlin is talking to former Cardinals running backs coach Kirby Wilson about taking a similar position with the Steelers.
-- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

I think it has more to do w/ Smith not being that highly thought of as an NFL QB prospect

not saying they don't like him, just they probably don't think he will be that good in the pros to warrant using a 1st on him, they could be wrong though, but then again...

I have to admit after watching Smith I felt he would be considered a higher prospect. I think some team is going to get a steal at QB when Smith is selected later in the draft.

I really don't think he was going to anyway CC. The NFL just doesn't draft QBs under 6'2" very highly. Is it always the case? No, Brees and Vick are both 6'1". But it is a bit of a roadblock. Whether that is legit or not is irrelevant. It exists.

He'll get a shot. That's the important thing. Not where you are drafted. He has the opportunity to make the most of it or wash out just like the overall #1 drafted QB.

I think he'll be fine and as I've said before someones going to get a very good player that could be special with some good Pro coaching.

I dont...he was horrendous against Florida, which was the cloest thing to an NFL defense as he's seen at Ohio St

he's gonna be a huge bust if he's selected any earlier than the middle rounds

Jack Del Rio? You mean that virtual no name with barely any coaching experience that took over the Jags?

Garrett is doomed.;)

Put the crystal ball away and let's see before we make such absolute assertions.

I highly doubt that. Troy Aikman was paying attention to him when Jason was the 3rd string QB here.

A lot of guys paid attention to BP in their careers, and T.O. still tried to test his patience. However the fact that Aikman would respect Garrett as a backup speaks volumes for his football IQ.

An Ivy league education may be the only solution to the enigma that is T.O.
