I'm also sick of jocks on the field. These games should be played by accountants.
I will again notify the Maid Service. Your continued concerns are noted. We can't have laundry on the field or in the booth.

I agree, I wouldn't pick Roy as one even though he's a "star." After every interview he's done, I've always been like, "Did he say that?"

Of the current Cowboys, I'd go w/James and Spears. Granted there should be alot of years between when they'd even be considered, but Spears is a great interview. Articulate and personable.

Haven't heard Bradie being interviewed, but I think he's got it in him. Maybe Julius too.

Julius is a very shy interview. Not too extroverted.

I did say maybe.

Part of that could be the auspicious start to his career. A little bit of consistent success, maybe he'll come out of that shell.

I think you're dead on about Spears. While i've only seen one or two interviews with him, i was thoroughly impressed with his charismatic personality and his quick wit. He'd be fantastic.

I was thinking the same thing about Bradie. I've never heard him speak, but by all college accounts, the guy is smart. Seeing his maturation on the field, the leadership role he's embracing, the knowledge he exhibits, I can't help but think he'd make an excellent analyst.

Don't get me wrong, I loves me some Roy. After the Commanders game, he was interviewed, and did not seem to speak very well when having to think on his feet. Granted he was just coming off the field, tired, and he probably had his mind elsewhere. I remember thinking to myself that he interviews the same way Emmitt did. He may have something to say, but just has a hard time articualting it to the masses.

Of course, this is only one example I'm thinking about.

Roy drew the NFL Network's premier year 'camera cam' duties for the Cowboys. In one segment he led a ten minute or so tour of the locker oom, and tho he was a bit bashful, (LA gave him a mercilessly evil look, and Roy was wise enough not to shove the mike in his face), he seemed to me a natural.

He's still young, but by the time he retires, I suspect he'll be worldly enough.

Agreed that Spears is a sharp cookie.

Spears and Ware have both done full radio shows and they both talk very well and seem pretty intelligent. Spears just has an outstanding personality and seems like he'd be A LOT of fun to listen to commentating on the game.

Drew Bledsoe will certainly have a career in broadcasting if he so chooses. He is very well spoken, has the voice for it, from what I've heard of him during his Radio show on The Ticket... he's got a personality that could be very likeable when not asked questions about certain players on the team (like TO). (When he's asked questions that could be controversial.. he's pretty vanilla and says the "right" thing.. which is PERFECT for the TO situation).

On a side note, I think Roy is fairly well spoken (other than the on the field interview following the Skins game), BUT, he certainly doesn't have the voice or demeanor of someone you'd think is a SERIOUS headhunter and makes bone crushing hits like he does. He's got that higher tone voice that just doesn't match his play on the field.

Admittedly, my response was based on his post game interview (Commander game) which I further qualified by saying his mind was probably elsewhere. Players are rarely thoughtful after the games, and usually regurgitate cliches and coach rhetoric as answers to the often times inane unthought provoking questions. I know better than to form an opinion based on one sole observation. It's just the feeling I get when listening to him.

I wish I had seen the NFL Network locker room cam show. Was he goofing around, playing to the inside jokes known only to those in the locker room, or did he ask insightful questions?

Can you get rid of the sideline reporters first?

I agree. The current crop is not very good. If you're going to have the sideline cupcake, at least get some that are hot. Andrea Kramer reminds me of Florence Henderson. Michelle Tafoya looks like she used to be a man. Even the cute Suzi Kolber is getting a little wrinkly.

Nobody asks insightful questions on those things - it's all playful.

By 'natural' I mean the camera loves Roy.

Anything else can be learned.

Gotcha.

Tell me more about him looking to interview Larry. I love these types of stories.

DIdn't get a chance to read this whole thread, but BB has a great point.

Look how many coaches are ex-players. Not talking minor assistants here, talking Head Coaches and major OCs or DCs.

I know the decision to put SHannon Sharpe in a booth with a microphone is based on his popularity as a player, but as much as we all despise him I will bet you $100 right now that Dave Campo could dispense more real insight into the game than Sharpe on a pre-game show.

Playing time is great and all, but for the love of game tape get someone in there who actually understands the game.

Roy, with his camera and small entourage was wandering around the locker room and LA was straight in his path as I recall.

Williams glanced quickly and apologetically at LA as if saying "I am so sorry I am acting the fool in your Kingdom", and Allen looked down on him with a face of utter disdain.

Roy didn't exactly scuttle away but he pretty quickly got OUT of LA's way. It took a few moments of his next 'interview' to bring his voice down from a falsetto.

Hilarious.

They need to hire a pair like Mike and Mike in the morning.

Golic always takes the athletes view, and Greeny takes the fans side. It makes every point or argument interesting

If you dislike neanderthals and ebonics you are following the wrong sport.

Tennis, cricket and golf might be more your speed. :)

Former NFL players get gigs because they have ins with teams and players. Thats experience a traditional broadcaster can't get in a short time.

The real issue is the overall lack of talent to broadcast 9 or 10 games weekly to each market.

Buck and Micheals, ironically, both made their way in other areas of broadcasting.

I know he's not a jock but I really love to listen to Brad Nessler.

I thought hey how can you have college football without Keith Jackson and then Nessler came along and I was like Wow...The guys great.

A perfect example of this is how they let Charlie Waters take part in touching anything that resembles a mike for some of the preseason games ... I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
