Cardinals used the #1 waiver priority on him
That's all you need to know
Picking a guy up from a practice squad and using a #1 waiver priority are a little different, dontcha think? It could be that the Cardinals are playing the Rams this week. The Jags picked up Bo Scarbrough right before we played them, pretty common tactic.
He averages 25.1 for his career. 21.3 this season on 6 attempts. Im not sure where you got 20.2
On top of that he's averaged 12.5!!!! And 6.0 yards per punt return the last two years respectively. We average 5.3 this season.
We'd take Cooper because he's a year removed from being the best kick returner in the league, would be our best punt returner since Harris, and is only 23 years old.
Thompson was also cut for added cap space and comp pick.
You're right about the 21.3. I'm not sure what I was looking at with the 20.2. In any case, still not much of an upgrade, especially for a guy that doesn't seem to have use as anything other than a return guy. I understand that he had a big 2017 as a return man, and because of that I would be interested in him for next year, but I doubt the team would be willing to cut a current receiver to make room, especially if he isn't fully recovered from his injury.

Using the #1 waiver when your team has the worst record in the league, gunning for that #1 draft spot, while your opponent is one of the few power houses in the NFL. I doubt thats the case on this one.
They saw talent and they grabbed it.
There is some merit in the "why is he available" argument. He was pro-bowler last season, why 2 weeks before the playoffs would they decide to cut him, especially when the guy they signed to fill in literally just fumbled a return last week that sealed their defeat? Maybe they didn't trust him to not fumble again in the playoffs like he did last year? He just had ankle surgery, who do we cut even if we had priority and how much is really going to help?
Sometimes the "why was he available" question is a valid one.
Only if he brings the Rams playbook with him, otherwise, no.

Miles pulled his hamstring while you typed this.Miles is not coming back to Dallas no matter how much you liked him Catch.
Do you think there might be a chance the Rams had a reason for letting him go, or that there is a reason a quality 2017 player has had so little production this season?
For example, I found this LA Time article online ...
Cooper, 23, suffered an ankle injury during the season opener at Oakland and underwent surgery. He returned in Week 13 at Detroit, but had not displayed the form that helped him average 27.4 yards per kickoff return last season.
You always have to look deeper and understand the circumstances.
I don't know man. I watched that Ram's game the other night and The Pharoah looked more like King Tut's mummy... all wrapped up and no place to go
I cant stand it either.
It gets said over and over again during free agency and it's beyond ridiculous
It's like me saying "if derwin James was so good why was he available at pick 17"
That means what? Cooper was too in Oakland
50 cents I thought in your song lyric from the early 2000's, " it was like a fat kid loves cake".
IDK, does it have to have a meaning lol. Maybe Pharoah is the guy that put's us over the top on a SB run (shrugs).
When it comes to a 23 year old player, I'm thinking long term as well as short term. Especially at a position we have no young promising talent at.
I'd cut Lenior for Cooper in a millisecond
All this is moot though, as the Cards used the #1 waiver on him so we didnt have a chance regardless.
Sure there is to the "why is he available" question and that's why I try to research , but there's never any merit to the "if he's so good why would he be available" argument. It's awful.
That's a possibility, but given that he's only had 3 fumbles in 100 career returns it's a very small chance.
I'd cut Lenior immediately for him, would you not?
