I included Whaley in the group until I rechecked his bio. He is listed at 275lb, which is pretty light for a 1 tech. For some reason I thought he was heavier.
Wonder if they are looking at Davon Coleman there.

McClain, Hayden and Bishop alone are enough to man the 1-tech spot. If you want a better pass rusher in the nickle, then you put Hardy over there and bring in Gregory at WDE. Out of Marinelli's own mouth that is what they're wanting to do.

Gregory, Hardy, Crawford, Lawrence is a better nickle pass rush than:

Hardy, McDaniel, Crawford, Lawrence.

On run downs:

Hardy, Hayden, Crawford, Lawrence

is just as good as:

Hardy, McDaniel, Crawford, Lawrence

Your exactly tuned in, and in Marinellis scheme, the 1 tech is only used about 50 percent. Like you said, we will be running a pass rusher off the 1 in sub packages half the time.

Hayden was "healthy" last season, thats it.
He didnt beat out anyone else, he didnt have anyone to compete with .
I stand by my statement that Hayden wont even make this roster this year.
Seriously doubt that Marinelli has any confidence in a 1 tech that constantly gets washed out by powerful guards, and thats all Hayden does.
And thanks speed for that snipet on McClain that you posted, thats good stuff man.

he would certainly be better than Hayden but would cost too much for the extra he would give us.

All Marinelli needs from his 1 tech is someone that can hold the L.O.S. and keep the guards off the LBs.
We can generate a pass rush when we need to from the 1 with subs, like asthma field said.
If we get lucky, and find a 1 tech that can do both thats a big time bonus, esp against offenses like the Eagles, where Chips fast paced offense doesnt allow you to sub very often.
Maybe McClain can be that guy.

This is so enticing, it belongs here, not the NFL forum.

Signing Wilson and Wagner forced Seattle to release starting DEFENSIVE TACKLE Tony McDaniel. And they have a Kam Chancellor problem to pay, too.

Do it, Jerry!

Can you imagine adding Hardy, Gregory, Crawford, Lawrence, and McDaniel to the defensive line in two years? (Crawford was hurt the previous year.)

This is like the La'el Collins good fortune.

Get on the bat phone, Jerry. Do your thing.

He was listed as a starter with Mebane as the other starter. Mebane is a 1tech which would make McDaniel a projected 3tech. I think he had to play 1tech last year with Mebane out, but he has played more 3tech over the years than 1tech, IIRC.

Bishop and McClain are the primary competition for Hayden at the 1tech position. Bishop is very powerful and could play the base without no problem. Physically he was better then Hayden last season, but as a small college rookie he was in over his head mentally. McClain is a combo 1tech/3tech which is the type of player Marinelli likes at the 1tech for most of the snaps. Paea in Chicago was a similar combo type player that was a good pass rusher for a 1tech but not the big anchor that some schemes use.

McClain is probably more talented than McDaniel, but he will have to stay healthy to show it.

See what McDaniel is willing to play for and if it is less than Mincey wants in a renegotiation, than make a decision on which one you want.

I have a feeling some other teams will be willing to offer more than the Cowboys. The Giants might be in the mood if they are considering dumping JPP now.

Different position.

Bishop, McClain, Whaley,, why does everyone think Hayden is our only option.
Out of this group, I doubt Hayden even makes the team this year.

Marinelli loves Hayden for some unexplained reason.

I would love to see Bishop and McClain beat him out, but I don't see him being cut unfortunately.

Tony McDaniel is an upgrade over Hayden.

Jason and Jerry need to take a look at him.

Dallas' run defense is not that good. There is only one quality starter (Crawford) at the DT position in my opinion. Green Bay exposed the run defense in the playoffs last season.

Ronald McDonald is an upgrade over Hayden. DAL only keeps him because he is cheap and healthy. They get a break on the salary cap by signing him over a rookie.

Tony McDaniel was only set to make 3m so it isn't a ton of money and he would probably sign for an incentive laden 1-2m deal at this point.

listen, you might be new here, you dont know how things go, even after a 12-4 season, any player that any team releases, we want that SoB and we want him NOW. Doesnt matter age, how bad he sucks, gap stopper, none of that matters, hes in the silver and blue, so we want him, ok, now you know. continue on.

He has more posts than you have. He must not be too "new".
