It seems so silly to hear all these comments from the Giants. "If we play our game..." or "nobody can beat us, we only beat ourselves" or similar silly things like that.
What it reminds me of is a fight between a really good fighter and a fighter who thinks he should be getiing more respect than he is. Sometimes fighters in the UFC or boxers will make similar comments when they really are afraid of getting their heads beat in. If you ever heard comments from the Tito Ortiz -Ken Shamrock fight, he (Shamrock) constantly made similar comments like "when I fight my fight nobody can beat me" or "you've seen what I can do before and I guarantee you if I'm 100% healthy and everything goes exactly my way and I fight the kind of fight that I haven't fought in a long time but am very capable of fighting..." Then he got in the ring and got his head handed to him. When it was all said and done and he lost badly, he would say he was injured or it just wasn't his day.
Obviously he was up against a superior opponent and he wasn't very confident. It was almost like he had put forth his false self confidence to convince himself that he belonged in the ring with Tito.
Much like Shamrock, the Giants just keep talking about how great they are and how they can't be beat when they are on their game. It sounds an awful lot like they are trying to convince themselves that they actually belong in this fight. It's quite funny to think that they will use every excuse in the book if they lose, but say I told you so if they win. The 'Boys aren't saying a word. They seem to be finding their confidence and their motivation on the field. The G-men on the other hand seem to be struggling to find some sort of motivation.
That sort of false confidence is easy to break. A few good shots in the teeth and Shamrock knew it was going to be a long day. A few good shots in the teeth by our 'Boys and the Giants silly guarantees and false confidence will be lying on the field next to Eli and Plax and rest of the Gints.
