Melton has picked up his game. He's at 5 sacks for the year, with 7 games left. I think he's on the roster next year. What say you?

He's going to cost us $9 mil next year. Don't expect him to be back.

He's getting better in the past couple of games, but he's not a 9M per year player yet.

I hope they negotiate a better deal. He needs to stay he has talent and you don't let that walk away and create another hole. I'm sure they will restructure and give him a bonus he's still young

Melton stays assuming he takes a hometown discount for his next paycheck

He's really starting to play well. We need him bad. I think he has 3-4 sacks in the last two games? Real solid from the DT position

Problem is if he ends up with 10 sacks he WILL be worth $9m+.

It's a good problem, however, when you also consider Dez, Murray, and Rolando McClain's deals are ALL up at the end of the season you wonder how they are going to pull it all off.

Hey, at least we're saving money on the backup QB. $200K for Weeden is a sweet discount.

Our whole line looked pretty good today. It's a shame that they didn't have a QB on the other side of the ball.

P.S. Pretty much his entire contract next year is negotiable.. he might not get what he is due to get now, but he will probably still get something.

I don't know and that's why I don't work in the front office. But I'm sure Dallas will figure something out. I don't see them letting good talent on a talent starved defense walk. They've invested a lot of time in him. An extension would help lower that hit though. With Brent coming back that might be a strong interior with a rotation of Craw and McClain

5 sacks through 9 games at his position is incredible. And that's coming off a serious injury. And limited snaps.

If they think 9 mil is too much, he'll get that from someone else with the way he's looked.

Unfortunately you can't sign everyone. My working assumption is that they will sign Dez AND Murray to next big money contracts and that with that the majority of the team's cap will be dedicated to the offense with big money deals for Romo, Tyron Smith, Dez, and Murray.

I suspect they'll be able to create some room by cutting Carr.

I'm ready for this week's MS paint thread. Brandon Weeden edition.

200K ?

Weeden's salary is 570K.

The difference between his salary and what Orton was scheduled to make is about 3M.

Cutting Carr is a no brainer as I don't think there is much of a penalty there (that is something they have done right) and I have heard they can make 50 million in cap space pretty easily, more if the salary cap goes up more than expected. Give Murray a series of 1 year prove it deals (little guaranteed but lots of money per year), franchise Dez then see about trading him (his change in agents seems to suggest to me that he doesn't have much interest in staying), and I don't think McClain will be demanding much... as his history sort of limits him from asking for much.
