Since there is so little actual Football news... Julius Peppers anyone?

I thought I would toss this one out there just to get something going:

Peppers and the Panthers could not agree on a long term deal before the deadline so he is still a possibility for a trade. The panthers probably would love to since paying over $16 mil a year for one player is pretty hard to swallow.
Might Jerruh be interested- this would be a big news story and Jerruh loves to make splashes. From a practical standpoint having Peppers on the other side would give us a monster edge pass rush- and let the Rat and James have lots of fun inside. Jerruh by now knows pretty much what Ware is going to cost-so that can be factored in now where before it was a real question.

I just don't see us trading for Peppers. If it was already known that he could be a 3-4 rush end then, maybe, but still doubtful.

Our 1st rounder (Spencer) needs to play now so I'd say pass. Plus we have spent enough already..

I appreciate your speculation, but how would Jerra, already facing a Ware contract, afford to pay this over-the-hill, stopgap player?
Peppers is going to want a lot of money. The Panthers cannot afford him and apparently think they can play without him.

Nooooo.

Let us leaves those days of signing "big names" just to be disappointed by the laws of nature and the inevitability of aging.

Let's build a football team, not a who's who of aged "marquee" players.

Thats the problem with him, he is only 29. Far from being over the hill. He just doesn't care about being an elite player, although he wants to be paid like one.

That list that had him as the 13th best player in the league was a joke. He's not even the best player on the Panthers. I would take Jon Beason before Peppers.

If you had bothered to read the original post, I pointed out that Jerruh already knows now how much ware will cost. They only differ about the lenght of the contract.

We have Spencer ready to go and drafted 4 linebackers. I liked the idea of Peppers coming to Dallas 4 months ago but not now.

This wasn't ever going to happen for a variety of reasons.

First of all who exactly would you be trading for Peppers? Giving up a #1 pick for him? Because that's the very least you'd be giving up to get him.

Jerry Jones will NOT trade for Peppers. Please bite your tongue before another rumor starts. If the Panthers lose Peppers they would need a DE to fill his place. So if a trade were to occour betwen them and Dallas, I'm sure it would somehow had involved Gred ellis before he was released. I wouldn't be surprised also if Dallas even contacted the Panthers behind closed doors sbout the possibility. But in the end, Ellis was released ofr nothing, and the Panthers never even inquired about his services; which tells you that they have no real need at the position because they're not letting Peppers go anywhere if he does not play there.

They want way too much in terms of compensation for him. The guy takes plays off every game. It would be a big mistake to give up a 1st, at a minimum, for him, which is what it would take. Not to mention how much it would take to then sign him long term.

Carolina now cannot renegotiate with Peppers until next season. If Peppers is traded, would his new team be stuck with paying him 17M for this season???

If so, no one is going to touch that trade w/a ten foot pole.
