Since we now thin at LB, any ideas...??

The loss of Ryan Fowler leaves us thin at linebacking. We usually carried at least 8-9 LBs and right now we've just got Ware/Ayodele/James/Ellis-Carpenter/Burnett. So I figure we must add at least 2 more LBs (ILB & OLB)unless Hoyte is good enough to returnto that position.

Frankly for the last 1-2 months I've been thinking we'd probably draft a CB (given Glenn/Henry ages) in the first round but it now possible LB becomes an area we must seriously address. So instead of drafting CB/WR/OL on the first day, I think we gotta add another talented LB or 2. Any suggestions which LBs we've shown any interest in? Also need remember that Ellis rehab seems to be going on schedule but we can't be sure he will be ready when we need him. Also are there any linebackers still available in FA we need take a look at?

If only there were a pool of talent from which could pick 10 players in order of how well we did during the season.

I have one big idea, hope and pray Jarvis Moss falls to Dallas in the draft!
If he doesn't, Anthony Spencer will be there.

First, you left Junior Glymph and John Saldi off your list... second, Al Singleton might still be an option, now that Fowler's gone... if his price tag is reasonable, he could come back...

As for free agents, I've seen the Boys' name linked to Randall Godfrey (former Cowboy) and Carlos Polk... I'd kinda like to see Godfrey return, finish up his career where he started it... Polk has the advantage of being familiar with Wade Phillips' system, too...

Finally, the Boys talked to a lot of draft-eligible "tweeners", both at the Senior Bowl and at the Combine... this suggests that one of them might indeed be a first day target...

I wouldn't be surprised if they brought in a lesser free agent linebacker, and drafted one on the first day of the draft as well...

Then again, Jerry just might decide to surprise everybody, and match the offer Fowler got from the Iggles... his price tag doesn't look all that outrageous in this market... I won't write him off as a Cowboy until it's official...

There, have I covered all the possibilities??

Here are some of the remaining UFA LB'ers:

Inside Linebacker

Randall Godfrey
James Darling
Kawika Mitchell
Monty Beisel
Jay Foreman

Outside Linebacker

Tommy Polley
Carlos Polk
Ben Taylor
Carlos Emmons
Orlando Huff
Brandon Short
Keith Burns
Chris Draft
Donnie Spragan
Keith Adams
Isaiah Kacyvenski
D.D. Lewis
Hannibal Navies

I'm probably wrong, but I think only Godfrey, Polk, Huff, Darling, Mitchell, Beisel, and Spragan have experience playing in the 3-4.

Godfrey is a 4-3 LB and all that he could really do is take up a roster spot.

a 3rd string LB going to another team suddenly leaves us thin at LB? seriously, i would understand if we lost 2 or 3 LBs. I am not worried and will not lose any sleep over it. I am sure a 3rd string LB/special teamer's roster spot can be filled without a problem. Calm down.

Hey DawnOfANewD your sig says "Drool", why. I am going to assume that is 300ZX twin turbo. It looks good until you get to the 747 spare part sitting on the rear, what is that and I hope its functional.

Assuming we don't re-sign Singleton and Ellis isn't at 100%, that's five LBs (Carp, Ayodele, Burnett, James, and Ware) for four positions.

That's thin.

Wait just a minute, we can't forget Junior Glymph and Carl-Johan Bjork. :D

Gee, I would have sworn he played in a 3-4 when he was with the Chargers... STARTED 42 games for them, in fact...

Bjork's no longer on the roster, he was just an NFL-mandated "National" signee from NFL Europa... he didn't even count against the practice squad...

Of course, if he showed the Boys something in practice during the course of the last season, they could always opt to sign him to a "real" deal, but I have heard absolutely nothing to suggest they're contemplating doing that...

Damn thought he was still in seattle. After looking at his stats though does it bother you he has missed at least one game a season since he left Big D.

Well he would be replacing Fowler. If we leave Carp inside and signed a Godfrey "type" vet, the depth chart would probably look like this: LILB:James/Godfrey RILB:Ayodele/Carpenter. I can live with that. We'd have this on the outside. ROLB:Ware/Burnett LOLB: Ellis/draft pick/FA. With 10 draft picks coming(maybe more maybe less depending on trades) i'm sure we can add atleast 2 lbs to the mix via the draft. It is still only the second week of March and i'll bet we sign at least 1 vet LB. But to answer your question, no, Godfrey doen't bother me. He is and always has been a player.
