SI's Peter King joined The Musers on KTCK-AM 1310 The Ticket. Here are some highlights.

Can the Cowboys put back-to-back double-digit wins together?

Peter King: The number one loss by ProFootballFocus for this season is Orlando Scandrick. He's one of the very rare slot corners with the ability not only to play outside but with the ability to be a shutdown guy at a position that is basically very, very difficult to play consistently and to be durable. It's become a vital position because your slot corner is gonna play at least two thirds of the snaps in an average game. That's one of the things they're gonna have to overcome, and, if they can, I think they're gonna have a really good year.

On the running game?

Peter King: I think more than any other skill position in recent football history you see good running backs and good running games being basically created. A year ago, had anybody heard of C.J. Anderson? I wouldn't be all that concerned about it. I think getting Michael from Seattle is a good move, especially at the price they paid. A conditional seven is extremely good, even thought he wasn't what the Seahawks thought he was going to be. I think he's got to play with a little more reckless abandon. But I think he's a good insurance policy for Joseph Randle, for Darren McFadden. I wouldn't worry about it, not with an offensive line as good as Dallas has.

It's amazing how little people understand the game. This cornerbacks are impact players thing.

Here's the deal. If the newly revamped pass rush hums this year, losing Orlando Scandrick is completely irrelevant. You won't even know he's not out there.

And if it doesnt?

Scandrick is a nice player, but wow, is he overrated. He's Kevin Smith or Isaac Holt. He's not a top 10 corner.

I believe our pass defense was ranked 26th last year so not much lower to go than that with or w/o Oscan

I think that number improves, even without Scandrick, because the pass rush will be much improved. So yes, it could not get lower.

It's good to see PK come off the national narrative that the Cowboys are doomed without DeMarco Murray.

I think it will, but you have to be worried about the first four games. If the Cowboys get out 3-1 they will be golden.

For what he does, he's not overrated. That slot CB position is a tough one to fill. We're fortunate to have a decent young player in the lineup behind him. Watching Patmon early in the season is going to be one of the things I'm looking forward to.

The idea that CBs aren't relevant is completely absurd. We all know that pass rush is important to a defense, but offenses will take advantage of whatever weaknesses a defense has. You need to pressure *and* cover in the NFL.

That's true. The Eagles were 2nd in the league in sacks last year but still couldn't stop Dez from walking into the end zone 3 times.

That's the first example that popped into my mind, too.

It just stands to reason. NFL OCs are going to find a way to expose weak links. A pass rush gives them less time to do it, but teams can still routinely beat it if you can't cover, too.
