FLETCHER IS A 'SKIN
A league source tells us that linebacker London Fletcher has agreed to terms with the Washington Commanders.
Per the source, it's a five-year, $25 million deal. It pays a $10.5 million signing bonus and pays out $12.5 million over the first two years.
Washington was Fletcher's first and only visit. Other teams that were interested in the nine-year veteran were the Bills, Lions, and Patriots.

well that settles it. Game-set-match.

SKins are the super bowl champions. once smoot and kerney are on board they will be going back to back..

edit: I spoke too soon. the skins did sign smoot already today.

THey are going back to back.

I guess I will just turn in my season tickets.

if I'm doing the math correctly, half of the money he's going to see his 1st 2 years would average to about 6.3 mil that he's owed in '07, that's a good chunk of their available cap space, I don't see them doing much else

like I said they signed smoot today too.

I think they are interested in kearney also...and possibly porter.

articles had them as competitors against us for L. Davis. shouldn't have that much more cap space after their 2 signings already. The skins were the one team I was really concerned with that Davis might be able to use to REALLY inflate his value when dealing with JJ.

a guy on extremeskins who is respected I guess said davis agent said the giants and skins and cowboys had made offers to davis already.

the thing I didnt understand and what made me assume it was crap was that he said they were using washington to drive the price up on dallas and that he wanted to play in dallas, but does not want to be a guard.....however he would be doing the same thing in washington right?

I guess the giants made the largest offer so far, but he does not want to play for coughlin..

they would be getting pittance, SkinsandTerps said that w/ all the wheeling and dealing, restructuring contracts and the like, they'd have about 10 mil to play w/, Fletcher this year would take up 6.3 mil of that

Then they will just restructure someone else's contract . . . . and it goes on and on and on.

Depends. He's at the age where a lot of linebackers lose a step so there's a little more risk in giving someone his age and with his wear and tear a $10.5 million signing bonus.

It's a lot like the risk we took with Rivera, and we know how that's panning out.

Fletcher won't take up that much of the cap room his first year of the deal... his first year hit will probably be just under 3 million... a 10.5 million dollar signing bonus over 5 years is 2.1 million per year worth of cap hit, and his first year base salary will be close to league minimum, since he just banked a big bonus check...

it said Fletcher will receive 12.5 mil of his contract w/in the 1st 2 years

so they're going to be paying 9mil next year for him?

scratch that, they'll just restructure his contract, nvm
