I know this had to be mentioned before, but with Parcells checking out Hurd and Rector at kickoff and punt returns, it does look like he is preparing to release Skyler Green. From what I have seen and with how tight we are against that 53 man roster, I would consider the same.

He has shown nothing on the receiving end, and his returns does not seem like anything more than Tyson Thompson did, actually worse. Save that roster spot for someone like Thompson who can be your third running back as well as returner.

He was drafted more to return punts than kickoffs. He's in trouble for sure but he could still save his job with a big game Thursday IMO.

You could be right, but I think Copper is gone before Green.

Wow. Like the other 8 threads over the past week on the topic weren't enough.

I would like to see Green make the team but I will say Rectors play could change that. When a player is making plays as he has been doing it would be hard to justify releasing him.

Most of the time a rookie that is drafted as high as Green was will make the team based on his draft status alone. I had high hopes for Green, but so far I am unimpressed with his return skills, and in my mind he will not make the team as a receiver. I think if he survives the final cut, it will be solely based on either his draft position, or his value as a return man. Objectively, I do not believe his performance so far merits a spot on the final roster, especially since keeping him means that we will have to let somene go that we really would like to keep. Thoughts?

a guy a takes up a roster spot just to return kicks and that is all he does is a waste of a spot, and Skyler cannot even do that...

You are right. He was not drafted based on his receiving skills. So far it looks like his specialty isn't returning punts either. LOL. I sure hope he proves me wrong. I would cut him based on what I have seen out of him so far.

Well, that is what he was drafted for. So get over it.

He's done a decent job returning. Sat. night was just a no-win situation. The only thing I'm thinking, is;

If another receiver is capable of eprforming just as well as Green - and can actually play receiver, contribute on ST, then there is no reason to keep Green. He's performed fine for what he was brought here for, but if the other receivers perform just as well, he is definitely expendable.

To me it comes down to this -- those other WRs -- they maybe can return but they don't have much upside as return guys -- Green has the potential to be a very good returner - guys like that are hard to find and can take a while to develop.

Green is either history or practice squad. Bill needs to stop wasting draft picks on these guys. A 4th round pick nonetheless. At least Zuriel was like a 6th rounder.

i think because he does have potential to be a good return guy he will be put on the p.s.
not enough spots to keep him on the 53 with t.o.,glenn,crayton,hurd,and rector.
copper and green are both on the bubble and copper has a few more things going for him in that he can catch the ball and he does play st

I have no idea what's going to happen with Skyler Green. I think everyone is in a big rush to push him out the door though. I still think he's got a great chance here...

We know that Bill views special teams as one-third of the game. I happen to agree with that assessment. Games are often decided by a special teams play.

In contrast, your fourth or fifth receiver doesn't usually change a game for you. I know that there can be issues with health, and that may be a more pressing issue with this group of receivers. But when it comes right down to it, would anyone really be surprised if Skyler Green was kept instead of someone like Sam Hurd - even if Hurd has shown more promise as a receiver?

The other thing to possibly consider is that the Cowboys may feel like you can find a receiver like Sam Hurd or Jamaica Rector with more ease than you can find a quality return man. You know, a guy like Miles Austin is likely to end up on the practice squad. Is that ceiling that much different between someone like him or Hurd or Copper?

Like I said, when it comes down to it, Green may be much safer than a lot of people seem to think.

I think so too. copper is basically just a st gunner, and I think green offers more in terms of wr and a returner. we have some other guys who can be gunners

I say that really because of Hurd and Rector. I think their play will have a lot to do with Copper not making the cut. Green I think makes the team if he is not caught in the numbers game. Meaning how many OL do we keep or OL where it may cause us to not take as many WR/Return man if BP thinks we need to keep 1 more LB or OL than expected then it could affect Green.
