Smith and T.O. take same precautions

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith sat out the final practice of training camp on Monday due to his strained left hamstring.

Smith rode a stationary bike and did agility drills on the side of the field as the team practiced. He was injured on July 29, the first day of camp.

"It's day-to-day. It's the same it's been," coach John Fox said. "We'll evaluate it one day at a time."

Smith returned to practice last week, but sat out Saturday's 17-10 exhibition win against Jacksonville.

Fox wouldn't say if Smith, who led the NFL last season with 103 catches for 1,563 yards and 12 touchdowns, will play Thursday against Miami.

Tight end Kris Mangum also missed practice, but he did agility drills without a protective boot on his left foot. Mangum has been out since the beginning of camp with plantar fasciitis.

I think it's funny the mediots have turned T.O.'s sore hammy and missed practices into a circus, but they haven't with Smith. It's not a controversy there, but it is at Cowboy camp.

But TO is the devil for sitting out. Let's take him out back and finish him.;)

i've been having this argument for like 10 days now, but people like to see what they want to.

i'd probably be MORE concerned about this if there wasn't a parallel case going on in the nfl to ease my mind.

but steve smith is why i'm not the least bit worried about T.O.

No kidding. Also, Smith was kicked out of a game last year, and arguably cost the Panthers a win vs. Dallas with his antics, and NO ONE ever brings that up. T.O. for all his faults, never cost his team during the game. This is a completely media manufactured controversy.

Why is this amazing?

Smith doesn't carry the same baggage as TO.

This is what you get with TO.

Why must we continue offering these posts that express "shock" that TO is being treated differently than another player in a similar circumstance?

I forgot. TO gave up being treated like a person because of the baggage that no will let him check. He and we should just accept that he'll get crapped on for the rest of his life and never address it again. Sounds neat.

No one will let him check his baggage? We are talking about a guy who just released a book bringing up the baggage instead of just moving on. Heck that book along was worth a couple hundred articals by itself.:laugh2:

What's even funnier is that Smith is refusing to talk to the media. While you get a lot of media types saying that Owens shouldn't talk to the media, if he did that he would get skewered for being a malcontent.

I'll be interested to see how long Brandon Lloyd is out for as well. He's very much in the same boat as Owens, a guy that's learning a new offense and wasn't very well liked by his old team. If Lloyd misses 2 weeks, the hypocrisy should be quite glaring.

Steve Smith doesn't have the "History" TO does

I guess. He beat the living tar out of one his teammates during a film watching sesson a couple of years ago. He isn't without controversy.

Remember he also got fined or suspended for kicking a player after being tacked.

However this was before his superstardom, when he was just an exciting return man and suspect receiver.

The point that was made, by the Czar I believe, is that Steve has history w/his team and they know him. The Cowboys don't know TO and with his "recent" history it's imperative he does all he can to gain their trust and get on the same page as Bledsoe. Which is all very true.

But a hammy injury is a hammy injury. And when more than one WR in the league is sitting out practices and preseason games, I guess I'm more willing to give TO the benefit of the doubt on this.
