Bristol County Superior Court Judge E. Susan Garsh will preside over the proceedings.
Prosecutors claim Hernandez "orchestrated" the murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd by luring Lloyd and his girlfriend, the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins.
Prosecutors allege Hernandez summoned two associates from his hometown of Bristol, Conn., to his Massachusetts home on the night of June 16, 2013, and simultaneously made plans to meet with Lloyd. Hernandez allegedly drove the other two men, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest "Hobo" Wallace Jr., to the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, picked up Lloyd and returned to North Attleboro.
Hernandez then allegedly drove into a secluded area in an industrial park that is surrounded by woods and mounds of asphalt, gravel and dirt, according to court documents. It was there that Lloyd was shot multiple times with a .45-caliber handgun.
Ortiz and Wallace have also been charged with murder but will be tried separately.
The pool of jurors was at 46 at Thursday's end. A final jury of 18 will be selected.
Hernandez has separately been indicted on multiple murder and assault charges for the July 16, 2012 double murder of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in South Boston that left another man wounded. That trial was set to begin in May but will likely be pushed back to the fall.
