So can we go ahead and say RIP December Collapse?

It's not a "collapse" unless the defense starts imploding like it did last year, and that hasn't happened.

That's fine, it's your opinion. Some of us think this team is still the best NFC team.

You don't know that. No one knew that 1992 team was a championship team either until was was all said and done.

Last year, we had five December games and we went 2-3. Of course we all remember the last two games being huge losses; it's been written about ad naseum.

This year, due to the scheduling quirk of playing on a Thursday night, the fifth-from-last game was on November 29. If it had been a regular Sunday game or even a Saturday game, it would have been played in December. So I'm going to count it. The final stretch of games are what matter anyway, not the name that happens to be on the calendar.

I've tried making this same point repeatedly.

But I'm absolutely baffled at the number of people who are hung up on this "month of December" nonsense. It's as if they actually believe a certain month could hold mythical, cowboy-zapping power.

The month of December is just a general, arbitrary time frame. The real issue has always been the last the five games of the season. Sometimes, all five games occur in December. Other times, they occur after Thanksgiving. Occasionally, they may include the annual Thanksgiving day game.

Regardless of the actual calendar dates, Parcells' teams always floundered over the last five games, never finishing better than 2-3. This year, however, the Cowboys are already 3-1 over this all-important stretch, and can finish no worse than 3-2 if their backups lose to Washington.

The answer to Chocolate Lab's question is yes...for this season.

So who is playing championship caliber football?

Green Bay, who was throttled by the Chicago Bears?

Seattle, who recently lost to Matt Moore and the Carolina Panthers?

Or perhaps Tampa Bay, who just fell to the San Francisco 49ers?

Do we even need to discuss the New York Giants?

It seems we're left with Todd Collins and the Washington Commanders as the sole standard bearers of championship caliber football in the NFC.

I don't believe there's any point in the NFC team showing up in AZ;)

In my opinion, championship caliber football is achieved by winning in the playoffs; therefore, a team only needs to be playing better than the other teams in its conference. And there isn't one NFC team better than the Cowboys.

I look at it differently... forget about wins and losses.

Answer me this, are we playing as good now as we did earlier in the year?

No. You can debate that we are defensively, but overall, absolutely not.

Does that make is a "Collapse"? No, but IMO we should be playing our best football at this time of year. Or at least close to it.

We'll see how we do in the playoffs.

You know, I've noticed since Fatcells left you've been a big cesspool of negativity. A complete turnaround really from how you used to conduct yourself. No offense, cause I couldn't really care less, just an observation.

And I guess you'd call the Patriots last few games "championship calibre football".

I'll settle for merely playing better than anyone else in the NFC. Winning in December is more difficult than winning in September, October, and January, especially for teams that have established themselves.

Ask the Patriots.

Exactly. How could anyone possibly argue that we've been playing great football the last 3 weeks? We were beaten by Philly, barely edged out a victory against the Panthers headed by Matt freakin Moore and had absolutely no business winning the Detroit game (who were demolished by 32 and 37 points in the weeks sandwiching us). That's why I'm thankfull for the two weeks of rest .. .not that I think we need the 'rest', we're no more beat up than any other team in the NFL at this point in the season, but we need to 'reboot the computer' so to speak.

Are we the best team in the NFC? Over the course of the season, yes, but the best team doesn't always win. Sometimes it's the hottest team. The NFL playoffs aren't comprised of abest of seven series, it's one and done. The best team certainly didn't win when we played Philly two weeks ago, did they? The 15-1 Vikings set the all time season scoring record in 1998, and they got beat by the hotter Atlanta Falcons.

Anyways, call me names, I don't care. I don't get too high with the highs or too lows with the lows .. I just look at the big picture, and the big picture right now is that we're not even playing close to our best football of the year when we should be gaining momentum. I bet half of the people calling me names would be the ones crapping their pampers and running around like the sky is falling had Paris Lennon just fell on the ball and won the game for the Lions. But since he kicked it right to Kosier by pure luck, now we're an unstoppable force and no team can possibly hang with us in the playoffs. Whatever, seen it all before.

Great job of exaggerating what we're trying to say. No one is saying we're an unstoppable force. Thinking we're the best in the NFC is far different than saying "no team can possibly hang with us"

Who in the NFC is playing any better than we are? Nobody is playing all that great, to be honest. What does it mean? Not a damn thing.

The Colts were not the hottest team going into the playoffs last year. The 2004 Patriots lost in Week 15 to the 4-12 Dolphins. The 2002 Buccaneers were shutout at home against the Steelers. The 1997 and 1998 Broncos lost 2 of their last four games. They were obviously not playing as well as they had in the previousthree-quarters of the season

Yes, please. But you'll have to give them something else to grip about annually, CL. Let's decide that Tony Romo doesn't play as well at the end of each season, for some reason.
