Some where in between I would say. There are moves Jerry has made that I have disagreed with and some I like. Currently looking at the talent he has accumulated I like very much what I am seeing. Thing about Jerry that we all know is he is not going to fire himself so what I hope for is he is able to listen to those around him and continue to bring in talented players.

Thats gotta go for every GM in the league though, right?

Also.... Are the Al Davis / Dan Snyder comparisons un-fair?

Try and overpay a little for a guy who we thought could get us to a Superbowl.

Had it been an Offseason move than we wouldn't have gave up that much.

What was everyone clamoring for last year? A #2 receiver. Many thought it was our only weakness.

Well Jerry went out and did something about it to try and get us to the Superbowl.

It was a gamble but at least he took a shot.

Sure it does differance is for other GM if you make too many poor moves your going to lose your job and as I said Jerry is not going to fire Jerry. As I mentioned there are moves Jerry has made that I like very much and some I don't. I love the current team he has put together and feel this team can compete at a high level.

The thing is Jerry was terrible when he 1st started really taking over the whole GM role.

But I think he has developed into a pretty good GM.

I mean we are hitting on picks in late rounds where most teams would draft a guy who wouldn't even make their teams practice squad.

Undrafted free agents? Who does a better job than we do.

I feel like Jerry has learned a lot the last 7 years or so and he has finally developed into a pretty good GM.

No.

He's a great one!

I honestly wouldn't trade him for anyone in the league...

He's the main reason our dynasty crumbled in the 90's, but now we're loaded with young talent and most of them are signed to contracts. He's been doing a great job at keeping the good players around. I never agreed with the moves of Pacman and TO, but I think he's learned his lesson.

I think he has learned from some mistakes he has made and being the Owner and GM he was able to learn where many other GM's would have been fired.

I like Jerry and as I said I like the team we have and see a bright future for the Cowboys with some of the younger talent we have and for that I credit Jerry.

At some point in time Jerry has to be considered a "football guy" he has been at this for over 20 years now.

No Gm is going to be perfect. We certainly have made some good move and some bad moves. The move to tender Austin is often lost in all the other moves. Look how many undrafted players we have playing at a ProBowl level. There certainly have been some misses, but even some of his questionable players are coming around to some degree or another (Carp, Spears). We have also been successful in the middle rounds of the past few drafts as well.

Bottom line: He doesn't have enough time to be a good GM. It's whom he surrounds himself with, IMO. He'll ask the questions and go with what he's told excluding the human toy's he picks up now and again.

Here's what you're missing. Well its not the only thing, but certainly makes the top 10.

Since as long as I can remember, the standard practice among NFL teams is to discount future draft picks by one round.

Ex: It's 2009 draft day and a team calls offering a trade for my 2nd rd pick. I'm asking for their 1st rd pick in 2010.

This was a mid season trade. The same discount wouldn't apply, but you have to assume some sort of present value discount.
The Lions were giving up a player now for future picks.

I think Jerry is becoming more and more of a football guy. Looking at the talent on this team I think Dallas has made many wise moves and has held firm despite outside heat. Jerry could have given up on Austin instead he tendered him a 2nd rd offer which kept Austin in Dallas when it appeared others may have interest in him.

We have brought in some very good FA like Sensabaugh and Brooking both are big contributors to this team, we have put together a secondary that is much better than is has been in a long time. Jerry has made mistakes and will make others as all GM do but I do think he has learned alot about what it takes in the NFL to win

Jerry the GM stinks and Jerry the owner is stupid for letting Jerry the GM stay in power for so long.

Tell me anyone else in the league that could keep their job as GM after having a decade and a half drought of playoff wins? Plus some of his drafts over the years have been putrid. And last but not least trading a 1st, 3rd and change for a player who's average at best right now and would have been a free agent after the season we traded for him.

I think Jerry is growing into a good GM. He realized that to become a great football team you must be good in all 3 phases of the game. So he goes out and get Decamillas. . He then uses draft picks on improving our special teams. Drafting a specialty kicker who leads the league in touchbacks. Couple of guys got hurt who I think would have been great special team players. So he deserves alot of credit for that.

Letting Wade go get his guys to help get this defense where it needs to be. Sensabaugh, Brookings and Igor were great additions.

Holding on to Miles Austin. The Jets wanting him, so did Jerry.

Its still early but so far I think Jerry is doing a heck of a job as our GM.

This is more true than most will admit. And it's actually been around 20 years.

I never believed Jerry operated as a traditional GM. Always felt he left player evaluation to his subordinates.
Does anyone here really believe Jerry is or will be reviewing film of division II OL prospects the team is considering in later part of the 2010 draft?

He's an overseer and is intimately involved with these decisions. He does have final say, but at the end of the day those "decisions" are simply the result of the input he receives from the scouts and coaches.

The obvious benefit of operating in this manor is that it makes him more to hire the scouts and coaches. More so than any other owner.
