What are our strengths/weaknesses going forward, who do we need to unload this off season, and what holes need to be plugged first?
I think this DL should far and away be our main priority. It's impossible to judge this secondary with how long they were being forced to cover all year due to lack of pressure. After DL, I would make one more solid pick to finish this offensive line, and then pick the best LB/S possible.
I'll be crucified for saying this, but I want garrett to stay. I don't trust Jerry to bring in anyone more capable. I think a new coach would just restart the same old cycle we are all to familiar with. This team plays tough under Garrett, and the drafting has improved.
We need to bring someone in to replace Callahan, I think it's obvious that this offense isn't being utilized to its full potential.
The defense is severely lacking talent at this point. How much of it is that, and how much of the issue is scheme is hard for the casual fan like me to see, but I don't think anyone would complain if Kiffin was replaced with literally anyone.
Is it fiscally possible to unload ware? I would. If we are lucky, hatcher tests the market and it's luke warm, because I think most people assume Spencer might be too expensive to retain. I would unload both of them if it was me due to their age. Hopefully Miles is gone. Witten is a great security valve, however Romo is being paid to not need a crutch. Lets let someone with a little more wiggle have a chance, escobar looks to have good game speed.
I think outside of Romo, the old core of this team needs to be let go this off season. They didn't provide much value to us at all this year (I would argue they died this year), and we actually did surprisingly well despite which is why I have a bit of optimism going forward.
I'm just rambling at this point, but if anyone is capable of thinking clearly after the game we just witnessed, I'd like to see everyone's honest opinions.
I'll finish with a positive, and that's the talented young players which are going to be the new core to this team going forward...
Murray, Dez, Williams, Smith, Travis, Lee, Scandrick are upper tier NFL players. We also have players like Claiborne, Leary, Crawford, Wilcox, Escobar who could transcend.
Don't get me wrong, this team could still collapse in epic fashion. Or we could have just rebuilt the majority of this team while also not having a single losing season. As much as it dismays most people on this forum, I think it's likely garrett gets another year.
