Burt Reynolds, the charismatic star of such films as Deliverance, The Longest Yard and Smokey and the Bandit who set out to have as much fun as possible on and off the screen — and wildly succeeded — has died. He was 82.

Reynolds, who received an Oscar nomination when he portrayed porn director Jack Horner in Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights (1997) and was the No. 1 box-office attraction for a five-year stretch starting in the late 1970s, died Thursday morning at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida, his manager, Erik Kritzer, told The Hollywood Reporter.

So sad to see this, no one was bigger during that time period in the 70s. The ladies loved him and the men wanted to be like him. He did something with his time here on earth and by all accounts had a heckuva time doing so. As the Revered said, this one hurts. RIP.

Oh no. All the greats from the past are just about gone. What a wonderful human being Burt was. Thank you for all the great memories & laughs.

Neil Simon, Aretha, McCain, Reynolds all within a couple of weeks. I'm sure they're all together clapping as Burt arrived saying, What took you do long?!:)

Smokey and the Bandit along with Star Wars where the two movies that basically introduced me to movie watching. (well, enough that I wanted to watch them again) A lot of people like Muscle cars and have specific favorites that come before the 80s and go well back. Most of my favorites are from the 80s (87' Buick Grand National, and the 85' Monte Carlo SS) The one that I really love from the 70s is his 77' Pontiac Firebird. (some believe it was a 76', but it seems nobody can prove either)

Burt Reynolds with Sally Field in the car and Jackie Gleason chasing him where such fun movies. No CGI or digital enhancements but just as or more entertaining. A time when car chases in movies were fun to watch and not just your gatuitious car chase scenes to take up movie time. RIP Burt.

I just watched The Longest Yard yesterday in prep for the season, what a great laugh he had. He was a natural in front of the camera and one of my favorites of his, Hooper, was not a hit. I also loved him together with Dom DeLuise in The End.

Burt, thanks you for the good times watching you on the big screen.

Burt Reynolds gone. That's a sad day for everybody. He was the 70s in a lot of ways. Son of a Florida Police Officer. Reynolds was going to become a Parole Officer, before he got a break in Hyde Park NY. Reynolds would go on to become a College Football Star at Florida St., a huge Hollywood Star and Professional Football Owner in the USFL, of theTampa Bay Bandits.

RIP Burton Leon Reynolds Jr. (February 11, 1936 – September 6, 2018)

His laugh always cracked me up......When he and Dom Deluise laughed together, it was impossible not to laugh with them! and he had the mustache every guy tried to copy, before Tom Selleck!! Goodbye Burt, you'll be fondly remembered.
