So Malcolm Brown or Byron Jones

This was my take. I can live with Jones but Brown was clearly the better player IMO. So my only conclusion is that we strayed from the board and let need drive our pick, which isn't comforting at all.

I kept hearing that dallas may been looking at him as a 1 tech and not a 3 so he may have not been as high on their board.

Hopefully we will simply to BPA today and stick to our board. We could come out with a couple of quality guys. With that being said, I hope their BPAs are DE/DT/LB with the 2nd rounder and RB/LB/OL with the 3rd. I think we could see some slipping today. Wonder if La'el Collins will slip. If he is clear in all of this, he could have a MAJOR chip.

1 tech,3 tech, whatever.. Both guys have to rush the passer on 3rd down.

I hate that we are just willing to forfeit a non existent pass rush from 1 position on the DL.

I wanted brown as well but him being viewed as a 1 tech might be the reason they passed so easily. I just hate the Pats got a big time talent with the last pick. Smh

Well I'm sure they would've glady took Byron Jones as well and he would end up being the next Revis for the lol.

Anyways I just think if all things are = then take the DL.

I think money at the corner position was more at play then talent vs talent.

I would much rather have Marcus Hardison who I dont think is getting enough love. I see Mardison as a 2nd rounder and would love to grab him there.

I don't think jones makes it passed the Packers if we take brown

I think this discussion really comes down to how you view each players value and financials. We definitely needed help in the secondary and Jones, I think, will eventually provide that. However, I believe that Brown is the better talent. Do you pick BPA or do you look at your team situation and take best player that can help you in other areas, such as overall team need and cap management?

I think the team looked at the later and placed more value there. I can't fault them for that. I think it's a sound decision but it's probably not how I would have gone. My first preference would have been to trade down into the high second and picked up extra pick/picks. At that point in the draft, depending on where you could have moved down to, you had several talented players in areas of need still on the board so if you could have moved into the high 2nd, I think a really good player is still available to us. My second option would have been to take Brown. I think he can play either 1tech or 3tech and provides an immediate upgrade at the position. My third choice would have been to take a DB (probably Jones).

I don't think any of the choices are poor options for us. I'm happy with Jones coming to Dallas but that would not have been my preference there. JMO

No so sure they strayed from their board. History shows Cowboys select player that come in to visit....They bought Bryon Jones in and not Malcom Brown.....Some reason they don't like Brown....

This is a possibility. I think its more likely that they just don't like taking Texas players.

I think they just flat out don't value the 1 tech enough to spend a 1st round draft pick on one, even one with a little wiggle. Marinelli didn't want a better prospect in Flloyd why would he want Brown?

The way the draft played out, I'm glad we took Jones. With Gregory dropping to 60, the earliest we were getting a CB was in the 3rd, and that may have not been good enough.
But when we were on the clock, I actually wanted Brown.

I wonder if they received any trade offers. With only two trades in the 1st round compared to 5 last year, looks like teams were not wanting to trade up this year.

When there is such a lack of top level talent I think teams know where the value is and that is in the middle rounds.

I would want more middle round picks personally in a draft like we just had.

we could of had Derrick Lott, DT, in the 7 rd

rather than Mark Nzeocha

Kid has the versatility to play either.

He has the potential to play either. He doesn't yet have the versatility. He needs to learn to sit down on double teams. He is very good on isos and like Armstead can use natural ability to overpower individuals but too many times I saw his poor hand technique and awareness cause him issues against tandem blocks and the like.

You see that a lot with young DT. My man Ken Bishop had the same problem. You'll see them sink that knee after they've already been turned in the like.

Still would take Jones.

Don't see the value in drafting a DT in the first round, with some exceptions of course.
I wish we would of drafted a DT in the later rounds, but I guess Rod feels confident in the guys we had last year, including some PS guys.

It comes down to who you feel is the worse player, who is more of a liability starting on this defense.

Brandon Carr or Nick Hayden.

Easy decision there.

Stephen said Brown didn't fit their defense and what they were trying to do. I'd like to believe your post because I don't understand how Hayden makes the final 53. But it doesn't sound like it boils down to who to replace of the 2 players you mentioned.
