It comes down to who you feel is the worse player, who is more of a liability starting on this defense.

Brandon Carr or Nick Hayden.

Easy decision there.

Hayden is significantly worse as a player than Carr, Scandrick and Claiborne, however his position holds significantly less value. Just as important to the argument, is the versatility we already have on the defensive line where guy like Hardy can move inside next to Crawford. That means no Hayden on passing downs. Jones was a premium talent (according to scouts) at a premium position, particularly in this defense. Brown is a good talent at one of the least valuable positions on this defense. In a vacuum where Jones and Brown both play to their projections, it's a no-brainer. They made the right choice.
