So Many Terrible Draft Picks

The Cowboys have drafted well, though the second round gambles haunt. Recent drafts tilted too much to the offensive side, but some of that was circumstance. The marquee first round miss was Claiborne, and that was costly. But it's probably safe to say most NFL teams have fewer than six blue chip talents. The Cowboys have Tyron, Frederick, Martin, Elliott, Bailey and Lee. Four of those six were out Sunday. That's hard to overcome.

The Cowboys are a young team. Prescott could become a blue chip player. Lewis could. Lawrence and Irving have played like they are capable. Bryant has probably slipped to the red chip category. But again, this is quite a young team.

The combination of key injuries/suspensions and youth have taken a toll. Happens in the NFL.

Jaylon Smith over Myles Jack was just flat out stupid.

I feel like I am going to have to say this about 1,000 times before it sinks in.

When people scream we should have taken Jack, have they really been paying attention to him?

Let's start with the fact that in his rookie year, they benched him at WILL he was so bad. Then in the offseason, they decided to give him a shot at the MLB and benched Paul Pozluzney and handed the starting MLB to Jack. He bombed out........... they had to move Pozluzny back to the starting MLB spot and as a last ditch effort to get Jack on the field, they put him at SAM and he's been fine there.

So when people act like we should have taken Jack and he'd solve our problems at MLB, they haven't really paid attention to what Jack has done.

Note, this is not a defense of Smith but rather a clarification for those who are fan boiing Myles Jack.

I don't think the issue is the overall drafting. It's how many relatively high draft picks (first three rounds) haven't panned out as expected.

They've whiffed with prime picks on defense - Jones, Gregory, Smith, Charlton (granted, it's too soon to write the book on Taco or Smith), etc.

They've also tried to bargain bin the crap out of the defense in FA - Carroll, Paea, Mayowa, etc.

If you are going to miss premium picks in the draft and then think a guy like Nolan Carroll is going to help you, then you are what we have - a defense with talent holes.

You know the board has jumped thr shark when we start complaining about our drafting after having maybe the greatest draft of all time a calendar year ago.

As time goes by, that draft is looking less and less stellar.

Zeke....suspended and 1 more domestic violence accusation from being kicked out the league

Jaylon....Awful Player. Its not only his physical ability that is making him look so bad

M. Collins....Decent Player but not pro bowl level and definitely was overhyped this offseason

Tapper....1 Sack and often injured

Dak....Good QB, not elite like this board likes to claim

Frazier....Good special team player, but thats about it. Hasnt beat out Heath for the starting SS role

Brown....Looks absolutely awful at times. Poor technique and penalty machine. Hes regressed big time

Jackson....No longer on team

Rico....0 games played. Has shown flashes but hasnt played yet

Well if you are gonna say Dak is not elite, then the same standard has to be used for Romo. He too wasn't elite. I guess your defintion of elite is so far above everyone else's.

In fairness though Foster had injury issues coming out of Bama and if I read correctly, yesterday was the first game all year he actually finished without getting hurt. But he's a machine when healthy.
