So I can't refer to players who just retired? Dak has to be refered to players only playing this season? Again, what is your definition of eilte. I can't wait for your answer. Should be for a great laugh. Why are you calling me a homer?
U have this odd obsession with Dak. Whenever someone criticizes him, u come with a cape on and defend him.

Like poster said above, if Dak is Elite, what is Brady and Rodgers?

Seeing as how everyone on CZ makes the right decisions in life 100% and are infallible, let's all take our private jets to our yachts in Maldives for some shuffleboard with scantily clad and buxom eastern European women. Onward!

Come on we don't know exactly where Zeke went to clear his head and work out for the next 4 weeks. Also, I'm not thinking he has a private jet unless Jerry loaned him his for the month.

Here's what I would do............

In the offseason sign Logan as the 1 Tech. Then go get a veteran MLB like a DeMario Davis, Zach Brown, even an older veteran like Wesley Woodard or Navarro Bowman. Hitchens and Smith work at SAM, with Smith also backing up Lee at WILL and Hitchens at MLB.

You now have a very solid front seven:

DE - Lawrence, Charlton
1 Tech - Logan, Price
3 Tech - Collins, Crawford/Irving
DE - Irving, Crawford
WILL - Lee, Smith
MIKE - Davis/Brown, Hitchens
SAM - Hitchens, Smith, Wilson

Then you can draft BPA and if that's a DE or DT or LB or S or CB, great.

Solid

Also, get rid of Marinelli. This defense will never be good as long as he’s here

Yep.

I think the Heath experiment probably needs to end as well. Let Woods learn out there. He's not perfect but shown enough to be given a chance.

Even with my additions, there isn't a ton of depth on defense so basically if you are picking in the first round and the BPA is a DE or DT or LB or S, you have the luxury to take any of them and find a home for them.

The problem with this franchise is that they lately think they can fix all holes in the draft. It never works out like that. Being smart in FA gives you some leeway in the draft and gives you a safety net. So maybe the Cowboys want a stud LB. Great. I agree. But you can't just assume that the draft will net you one for sure. That's wise to go out and grab a mid-level guy at LB like a Woodard or Brown and that's an insurance policy for you.

Just off the top of my head, Jaylon Smith, Chaz Green, Byron Jones, Taco Charlton, Randy Gregory. These aren't end of the draft players. These are guys taken in rounds you need production from. Might be too early to make a verdict on Taco but so far, he's been as worthless as you can ask for a 1st round pick. Gregory will never play here again. Chaz might be one of the worst OL I have seen. Jaylon is a lost cause. Byron Jones was a mediocre player at a small school and him being a combine warrior impressed us. He does nothing well. He's not terrible but not even close to a 1st round talent.

I get we are hitting on more players as of late than back in the day but we still pick way too many worthless players who offer no help. In rounds where you expect good production.

The worst part is run of the mill fans like you and I knew who they should have drafted with players on the board. These clowns study the draft and players for years and they still got it wrong.

It's funny how our player acquisition is fine when we're in the midst of a 3 game win streak, but horrible after losing 1 game.

we have lost 4 games if you didnt notice. And people have been complaining about those draft picks for years and since the beginning of this year. Taco has been hammered since the day we took him.

Dak Prescott + Jaylon Smith, Chaz Green, Byron Jones, Taco Charlton, Randy Gregory. (for the picks we used)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Carson Wentz (for the picks they used)

Uh, they got the pick back. Now have a franchise QB, and are 8-1.

What is your point here? You're okay that we failed on 95% of our recent defensive draft picks?

Now i have an odd obsession with Dak, because you refuse to define what is the criteria for elite. Tell us Einstein, what is elite. Waiting......

Imagine this team with:

-Foster instead of Taco

-Michael Thomas instead of Jaylon

-Landon Collins instead of Byron

I just made myself depressed :(

Holding judgement on Taco until his second season

But this would have been better

Myles Jack instead of Smith
Ramsey instead of Zeke
And as you said, Collins instead of Byron

We would have one of the better defenses in the league right now.

I don't think the issue is the overall drafting. It's how many relatively high draft picks (first three rounds) haven't panned out as expected.

I agree. We have been great drafting in the first round, with Taco getting a too early to grade, grade, and Jones at least being solid. Claiborne was drafted too high(and wasn't worth the picks lost), but actually is a good corner, when healthy.

When you look at the 2015 draft class, the players that are still here have not really progressed since day 1.
Jones at FS is fine. Not elite or great, but plays well enough to get by there.
Green..bad time to talk about him. constantly injured too.
Wilson, JAG at LB. Hasn't improved since being here.
Swaim, solid depth TE. Nothing more nothing less. Almost a JAG.

8 draft picks, 4 still on the roster, but those 4 aren't necessarily standing out in a good way.

2014 was a good top heavy draft in Martin, Lawrence and Hitchens. The next 6 draft picks aren't on the team.

2013 gave us Frederick and T Williams. The rest never fully developed(WIlcox) or went to prison(Randle).

Of course no team will hit on every draft pick. This isn't Madden. Sometimes the team can do their homework, cross their T's and dot their I's, and then the player just doesn't pan out either to something on or off the field.

2016 so far gave us Dak and Zeke as two great picks. The rest, still need to prove themselves. Some like Collins and Brown have flashed, but they have also had their struggles.

The jury is still out on Taco. Even Clear Eye View might heal and improve with time. Hell, even Chaz might turn out OK (although it doesn't look like it at this moment). It's too soon to complain about any of these guys just like it's too soon to crown a player who is doing well. Landry said give it 3 years.

As far as Byron Jones, he's not as bad as people make him out to be, but we need to see more out of him.

:banghead:

I am going to knock myself unconscious if I have to read this again.

Jack got benched as a WILL and MLB. He's playing SAM now. He would not have been the fix at MLB just like Smith isn't the fix.

Apparently my point is that you have a real problem with math. 95%? Seriously?

WHO have we hit on on defense?

Irving wasn't a draft pick, we snagged him off the practice squad. Claiborne? Considered a bust here, made it one season after his rookie year before hitting the road. Randy Gregory? Drug addicted bum. Byron Jones? It's fun watching his ankles get broke weekly by a TE in the red zone. Brown? You guys had fun overrating this scrub last season, how does he look now? Collins? LOL ranked as one of the worst DTs in the league. Tapper?

We've hit on one defensive player, that's Lawrence. Even then, it took him until his contract season and battling through injuries to become elite.

As time goes by, that draft is looking less and less stellar.

Zeke....suspended and 1 more domestic violence accusation from being kicked out the league

Jaylon....Awful Player. Its not only his physical ability that is making him look so bad

M. Collins....Decent Player but not pro bowl level and definitely was overhyped this offseason

Tapper....1 Sack and often injured

Dak....Good QB, not elite like this board likes to claim

Frazier....Good special team player, but thats about it. Hasnt beat out Heath for the starting SS role

Brown....Looks absolutely awful at times. Poor technique and penalty machine. Hes regressed big time

Jackson....No longer on team

Rico....0 games played. Has shown flashes but hasnt played yet
Yeah, that draft doesn’t look nearly as good as we thought this offseason. A great draft because you get your Franchise QB out of it, but not greatest draft ever like was proclaimed.
