Possibilities:
1. DT3 Jason Hatcher
2. RDE Greg Hardy
3. FS Jairus Byrd
4. RDE Michael Johnson
5. DT3 Lamarr Houston
6. DT1 Linval Joseph
7. RDE Jared Allen
8. DT3 Henry Melton
Yes, the Cowboys could afford any 1 free agent that they want. They could have done it before the cap increased. It would be even easier now. Keep in mind that the 1st year cap hit of Carr's 50M contract was only 3.2M. That means they could sign a 100M player for a 2014 cap hit of 6.4M.
I'm sure that Hardy will be franchised.
Hatcher is too old, IMO. Also, he had some lingering issues with the shoulder/neck. We've seen what that type of injury issue can do to a player with Ware as the example.
Oakland has a huge amount of cap space. I don't know why they would re-sign Houston.
Allen is the same age as Ware; however, he does not have big injury issues and has actually been more productive over the past few years. Also he is a legit 4-3 DE with no question about his size. If I had the choice between Allen and Ware at the same price, I might go with Allen. If they want Ware to take a pay cut, they should bring Allen in for an interview when FA starts.
The Gianst have let some go Free Agents leave in the past. Linval Joseph would be the ideal 1-tech, IMO. He is only 25.
Henry Melton might be available because of the injury, the history with Marinelli and the lack of history/fit with Chicago's new defensive scheme. It's believed that Chicago will run a 4-3, but their D-Coordinator, DL coach and LB coach has primarily coached the 3-4. There was a report that they are planning to move DE McClellin to LB.
The Bengals have been cheap in the past and have already paid out a couple of big contracts on defense. Michael Johnson could be available; however, I would see his previous D-Coordinator Zimmer wanting to sign him in Minn.
Byrd is a wildcard. They would have to give him a 20% pay increase to franchise him again, but some reports indicate that they might do it anyway.
