So much for Jerry Jones being the one that makes the decisions

Jerry Jones said he was seriously trying to get somebody inside the draft room on his side to move up in the second round from No. 61.

He couldn't get any takers, but the target was Indiana wide receiver James Hardy, who went with the 41st pick to Buffalo. The Cowboys liked his size and ability to go get the ball.

But Jones couldn't find an ally in the room to get the momentum going on a trade, so they stood past at 61 and took tight end Martellus Bennett.

hardy would have been nice to have......i wanted us to take him but i bet the price would have been too high to trade up to get him.

People will believe only what they want to believe. To the JJ skeptics, everything that goes wrong is his fault and everything that's good is credited to someone else.

I would feel better if they said they never considered Hardy.

To know the guys in the draft room betrayed me and didn't back Jerry up in going to get him just makes it worse.

:cry2::cry:

A Mendenhall / Jenkins / Hardy first day would have been spectacular.

I heard that interview and what I understood was that Jerry wanted to trade up for Bennett but the scouts and everyone else told him to be patient. They hung tight and got the player they wanted. I didn't hear anything about wanting to trade up for Hardy but I could be wrong I guess.

Oh man, in that case thanks to the guys in the draft room, cause that would have just been stupid.

That is a true story. Shows how much we wanted Bennett. Jerry did say he tried to get Hardy.

That's exactly right! This blog is full of crap! JJ wanted to move up to take BENNETT! He was trying to urge everyone else in the draftroom to move up to get him, and he couldn't get anyone to side with him. Everyone was just trying to console him as he sat there tensed jaw waiting for #61 to role around, and they just kept telling him to be patient and that BENNETT would fall to them. JJ said he was so releaved when BENNETT fell to #61.

Why the conflicting reports and how do we know which is correct?

Listen to JJ's press conference when the link is put up on dallascowboys.com. He clearly states that he was trying to move up to get BENNETT, but no one would side with him, so he just sat there intently waiting.

this just shows that the Cowboys Draft room is a joke... If u want a player u go get him... Look @ the Bengals they lost 2 players they covet in this draft!

Come on in one breath people say this team is 13-3 and everyone we draft cant start for this team... then turn around and say Im glad we saved a 5th round pick by standing pat!!!

He also said he first tried to convince everyone to trade up for a WR, when they wouldnt agree on that later he wanted to trade up for Bennett, who was rated consdierably higher on their board than where they ended up getting him

why so much love for mendenhall?

i mean he doesnt break many tackles....he goes down just as easy as Julius. He doesnt have much juke about him, like Julius. The only thing he has on Julius is he hits the hole faster......

Other than the USC game, I was not overly impressed with his performance.

Anyone think jerry is racist. We only drafted black players.

Kind of like the Steelers who sat patiently and wound up with Mendenhall and Sweed.

I think the thing with today's draft is that so many teams adopt the philosophy that if you draft late you must move up that it's benefitting the teams that draft late and remain patient.
