I mean we all pretty much said he would, and pretty much said our pass D would be far better with Newman in the line up, but we weren't 100% sure of this

But to hear Wade Phillips say that with Newman in the game it help them "scheme wise" and that there "able to do more things scheme wise" that they weren't able to do without Newman, and with him in there, it just opens the door.

Man thats real satisfying to hear, even if he is 1 player, but the fact we can do more things with him in the game, just makes me wish i could take is injury in exchange for him to have a healthy foot like mines (and i really would, even though i play many sports). I just cant wait to have him back out there full time.

I like Reeves, but this 10 yards playing off, and 5 yard hooks, that turn into 10+ yard gains is starting to take a toll on me

If newman was healthy from the jump this defense would be blitzing a whole lot more. We have to be more conservative with newman's injury. Other than Ware, newman is our most valuable defensive player. Newman makes all the difference in the world.

No doubt Newman helps free up the defense and allows Dallas to be more aggressive. As for Reeves playing 10 yards off the line he is play that far off because that is what the coaches want him to do. If Stewart wanted Reeves to play up closer he would instruct him to do so but right now it appears they would rather have teams attack with the short routs that to attack on the deep ones.

yea i agree with you on that....

and i think its a good strategy for reeves, but i like how Newman just stays like 4-5 yards off the line, and just follows the receiver just str8 blankets him

No doubt Reeve I think can develop into a solid CB but I doubt he will ever bring to the table the skill level of Newman. With Newman in the lineup Dallas can afford to be aggressive and provide help to Henry on the other side and let Newman lock down the WR on his side.

Let Newman slowly work his way into game shape because he's going to really be needed for the Patsies and No Moss...

And not like most around this board...I have no fear of the Patsies when the Cowboys play them. Someone needs to *****-slap those bastids and I think this is a team that can do it!!

Understand that Newman won't get any more playing time against the Rams then what he gets playing in the slot. So we should be able to do what we did against the Bears but maybe even more now that we sure he is a go at game time. But this does reimphasize our need to pick up another quality CB like Newman early in the draft.

Yeah that 1 TD scored on Reeves against Miami, Reeves was jamming the WR, and the WR went right around him and scored on a fade route.

The coaches know he can't play like that unless he has help over top - Now that Newman is here, we can put help over the top of Henry (prevent the deep ball) Henry can then either start playing up close and jamming the receiver, or off the receiver and jump every route. Meanwhile, Newman can shadow the other receiver all over the field.

i dont think Newman will be 100% for the rest of the season but hell just having him just playing at 75% helps this team so much!

Teams would be smart to play as little nickel offense as possible against us which keeps Newman off of the field. I dont know what the Rams like to do as far as personnel packages, but if I'm coaching their offense I'd try to matchup Reeves on Holt or Bruce as much as possible in a 2 WR set. Like someone said earlier, this tentative 10 yd off coverage is too easy to exploit, particularly by good QB/WRs. If Bulger is on and we're for whatever reason not getting much QB pressure, it could be a long day for our defense similar to Week 1 vs NYG. We need our front 7 to dominate to erase any hopes of Bulger lighting us up downfield....

Sweet!

I really think that all the different looks that the Cowboys will bring to each game is going to be the factor! Noone has seen this team yet! Nobody!

newman helps but he has nothing to do with henry playing lights out.... He is one of the big reasons Our Defense is playing better. He's making plays when they matter.

Funny thing is, I just re-watched the whole game again just looking at whether we were jamming or not, and both interceptions Henry got, one was press coverage Henry, and he jumped inside of the WR - help over top

The second one, and this was unbelievable to me, Henry was playing in the slot (wow) he played press coverage and jumped the outside route, help over top as well.

When we did play some form of press coverage, Bears were successful very very little.

So both INT's were Henry playing press coverage.
