The popular consensus in the media and with many Cowboy Fans, was that the team was Bills. That whatever the 2007 Dallas Cowboys accomplished Bill had to be given credit. The Boys were a mind blowing 12-1 and the media was so happy to say it was because of Bill. I remember Wade's father, Bum, saying about the legendary Don Shula when asked how good of a coach is he. Bum replied, "he can take your'ens and beat his'ens and he can take his'ens and beat your'ens." The media never thought to dig up this quote as it relates to Wade. Is this not what Wade did this year?
Now fast forward to yesterday. We lose to the skins, and all of a sudden it’s Wade's team again. I’m reading quotes, that if Wade doesn’t win a playoff game, he should be fired. If you would listen to the media, this is not Wade’s team any way. And the guy who is given all the credit for building this team is gone. The media will write what is convenient for them. We as fan’s should not buy what they are selling. So I ask the media and the members of this forum to draw a line in the sand. Is this Wade’s team or is this Bill’s team? Because after we win the Super Bowl, we need to know now who to give credit. I have this thing for rooting for the under dog, so I’m on Wade’s band wagon.
I would like for all forum members to remember Hostiles quote, "embrace the hatred". I will give you a hint as to why the Boys are truly 'America's Team'. We bring the ratings; on the radio and TV and we travel. Even though we have a huge fan base, there are more anti-Boys fan than there are Boys fan. So in order for the media to keep the attention of most of America, they bash the Boys at every turn. I have encountered very few people that did not have an opinion of the Dallas Cowboys. Either you love them or you hate them, but rarely is there middle ground. The media feeds off this. Players that never played for Dallas will tell you the same. Even when we were a bad team (5-11), most teams played us as if it was their Super Bowl. Now that we are a good team (yes we are a good team – don’t let the media ‘suck you in’) we are clearly going to take on everyone’s best effort. We are a very young team, and young teams are defined as being inconsistent.
The Franchise however, is not young. It’s storied. What other Franchise can boost the likes of Lilly, White, Staubach, Merredith, Howley, Aikman, Dorrset, Smith, Irving, Laundry, Howley and the Bullet. I could go on with this list, but the point is, many people (the media included) hate the Boys. They hate us, because their team growing up, could never be the good guy, their team could never be ‘America’s Team’. Do not make the mistake and think those in the media can not have a bias. That’s preposterous. We all have biases. I have one for The Boys and Sunday football. And the meida has one for the team they grew up following. Also, the media’ wants to sell. And what sells is anti-Cowboys. The difference between the media and I; I can be objective and honest. I don't have to sell ad space or time.
I love being a Cowboys fan. I love it that others hate us. I love it that after every win, those in the media wanted to qualify it. You will notice how each win was qualified, but none of loses where. Each loss was, catastrophic. Each loss would sink us. And with many of our wins, the media would have us to apologize for winning. The win in Buffalo, in Detroit in Carolina and against Green Bay. Green Bay losses to the Bears (twice) a team that we blew out in their house. Does the media kill Green Bay? No. It must be the weather. The same weather that two weeks before was the key to how the Franchise had only lost one home playoff game in its illustrious history. And most in the media predicting that Dallas would lose again and Green Bay would win out and by this scenario, Green Bay with home field advantage would beat Dallas in the NFC Championship game. Now that Green Bay has lost, they media has another spin ready for us. They would have us to believe that the loss is the best outcome for Green Bay, since they would get to play Dallas in Dallas for the NFC Championship and their pass happy offense is better geared for Dallas weather than Green Bay weather. Mind you, Brett Favre has never won a game in Texas Stadium. But since this is Dallas, it’s the best thing for him. I love it. I love how the media has to make a non sequitur statement to spin a story against Dallas. There is no logical or rational explanation for that statement, other than it’s the media wanting us to buy their bias against our team. I love it. I love that the media has to reach to make a negative story about the Boys. I love how we are the worst 13-3 team ever. I love how we are the worst team ever to have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Even though our conference produced three playoff teams (the most possible), many would consider it the 2nd toughest conference in football and we clinched the conference three weeks ago, we are still not a good football team.
Sorry for the long rant and I got a little side tracked, but I hope you get the point. I remember Brady James saying that he reads all the papers and knows what people are saying about us. I think this young team will come out and play a very passionate brand of football next we see them.
