Bob, I just checked out your site and I like it a lot. I LOVE garlic and my wife & I were talking about growing some (when we get around to doing a garden that is).

One of these summers I'm going to make the trip to Gilroy again and the annual garlic festival therein.

Maybe I ought to send some to the Cowboys, the Roman legions ate garlic every day as they believed it made them stronger and gave them more endurance.

Of course, men who eat garlic every day seldom, if ever, need Viagra. Try it, your wife will love you for it. Excessive use of anabolic steroids is said to make it difficult to maintain a firm erection and maybe garlic would help that although I don't know of any clinical research on that.

Maybe some of the Cowboys could use it but among athletes, that was rarely the problem, just the opposite. Athletes are generally a fairly robust and horny bunch anyway.

Ummm, ummm, lol, you kinda leave us speechless with that post, lol.

One thing about garlic, the wife might love you for the part you mention, but she can't enjoy that garlic breath. I guess she could eat some too to balance it out a bit.

Nah, seriously, I work security at a car lot. I basically get paid to do nothing but work on my car (I get to use their garage and tools when I want to).

Nice car Rack. Can't wait to see it done. Went to the Adirondack Nationals today in Lake George NY. Big event. I have a 72 SS Camaro I'll have done in a week or two. Keep plugging along.

Well, I was caught. Yes, my boss at the time was a by the book kinda guy, and he didn't want any of us using our computers for internet usage unless it was work related. Well, he came in my office, all you can see is the back of my monitor, and he does a quick move around my desk cause he wanted to show me something.

Well, at the time I was real active in posting on basketball sites. He saw it on my computer and wrote me up for it, even made copies of my temporary folder as evidence. He made an example out of me, as everyone in the office said. Don't work there now, glad I quit, the job sucked anyway.

But I just wanted to share my experience with this issue. Do me a favor, delete your temporary files on a regular bais!!!

Work for myself now, so I can do whatever I want. Normally don't share this, but I think others can learn from my experience.

micro manager. He is probably doing the same thing, but on the Commanders sight. Good thing to quit from a guy like that. Should have talked privately to you. Managers should only care about preformance.

Since your a gov't employee, at any time, they have the right to search any and everything in your office. Just make sure you erase your temporary files frequently!!

I am a traveling worker - i work from hotel rooms and inspect on the road a lot. My job is based around me drafting reports in time and keeping a steady stream of revenue coming in.

As long as I do those other two, I don't think they can complain about how much time I spend here. I am away from home for months at a time, there is NOBODY out here with me, I am denied a social life and average 12 hours a day without weekends. If I want to spend some time on this site, I'll damn well do it.

I spend probably a good 3-4 hours a day perusing the site, that's including the times I stop in just to loko around and then my good posting time. That varies day to day depending on how busy I am.

Note that the 3-4 hours a day thing can't be called business hours. I am awake at 7 AM and work until I go to sleep everyday. Those four hours are my leisure time. I defy anyone in my company to fault me.

That is true, but you ever see a government employee fired? I have worked for 10 years now and I haven't. The Union is way too stong. I will take your advice thought. Funny thing is, I am the best employee work wise and knowledge they have.

Yes, he was the defination of a micro-manager, all of us employees complained about him all the time.

Within 5 months, he turned over an entire staff cause everyone either quit or transferred out. It was truely a horrible experience. He was just someone who had to manage every single detail of what all of his staff did. And his staff ran for the hills, lol.

This was a gov't job also. It know what you say about the fired thing, but I have seen people told to leave or else, lol. Not that any of that applies to you of course, just saying, watch your back always.

People like that have no idea how to treat employees. I manage people and as long as work gets done, I could care less what they are doing on the web(within reason). Plus, I always make sure to say thank you and great work to a good employee. It makes a world of difference to me from my boss and I'm sure to others.....

For the most part you are right. I am not a micro manager, nor do I work for any, but they can be successful. They usally do have to turn their staff over (as described by deep freeze), but they bring in folks who can take it and they work. I'm just saying it is a managerial style that works for some.

As I recall from my management classes in college, you have to micromanage theory X workers who believe work to be onerous and will avoid it every chance they get and you shouldn't micromanage theory Y workers because they're self-starters who are over-achievers and won't do well when when micromanaged. Theory Z says you get the best results by treating and motivating workers individually according to their type instead of treating everyone exactly the same. Self-starters will go elsewhere if you try to treat them like malingerers. Malingerers will slough off if you don't manage them closely.

Being the boss ain't always easy.

If bosses don't want us to surf, don't give us internet on our desktops

... needs us to be on the internet to access production numbers for our weekly and monthly builds. A decision was passed to limit employees access to websites like these. I was in favour of it and opened up the facilities I manage to IT to make it happen. We have a screening program that denies access based on keywords. They include words like sports, health, banking, leisure, shopping, news, chat, forums, etc. Basically the computers are used specifically for work becasue that's all you can do with them.

Life's easier that way. No problems in between.

I access this site mostly through the home computer, but will log on with my personal travelling laptop when I am on the road at the hotel. It all fits with the company policy and I don't stress over what my crew is doing during the work day.

Actually, I have worked some of everywhere, lol. I worked 2 places where this was the case. They limited where we could actually go on the web. It was ok, but one also had some destinated computers that didn't have the limitations. Elimates the problem, but it makes you feeling a child with parental controls.

...as the manager to ensure that your computer has the same controls that other workers have.

The only difference there is between my machine and theirs is what is stored on the hard drive. Other than that all things are the same.

We have all the access to vendors who supply to our industry. You only feel childish when you try to do personal banking or trade stocks while at work. The control ends when you get home.
