I would think we need a good DT more than anything. We have spent last years first on a DB and we have some capable players as well there.

As for WR, I really think we are going to go with Roy, Crayton, Austin, Hurd and Stanback. If we do take a WR is will be later.

Signing Brookings kinda pushes the need for a LB down a bit.

So I would think we would need a good DT (Ron Brace?) at 51. Someone who can be a good backup to Ratliff and gives us the option of moving Ratliff along the line if need be.

So, what do you think we need most and who would you like (realistically)?

OL IMO

We need an eventual replacement for both Flozell and Kosier

I'd start with the OL then fill in where needed

nope were gonna continue to fail on defense with an undersized NT in Ratliff.

I agree, we need to address that but odds are that we can address that later, IMO. I am more worried about LG and Kosier than anything else right now on the OL.

I agree with the two aforementioned opinions so I don't need to elaborate further......................

However, am I all alone in my opinion that we need to draft a QB? This conversation has come up before in varying forms, and I've offered that opinion several times. But I don't see much agreement to that opinion on any "draft" threads.

I think Kitna is fine as a back-up...........for now. And we all saw what happened last year when Romo went down. We went 1-3 or 1-4 during his down time.
I say draft a Stephen McGee (Texas A & M), a Pat White (W. Virginia), a John Parker Wilson ('Bama), a Nate Davis (Ball St.), someone like that. Doesn't have to be a Mark Sanchez or a Matthew Stafford, but someone who will not only keep Kitna on his toes, but maybe win a game or two if pressed into action.

I think that QB is one of the weakest positions depth-wise on the team. We got Tony Romo, who already is a Pro-Bowl player and will most likely improve consistently over the coming 4-5 years. He's gonna' win a SB or two as well, I'm very optimistic about that. And the way that Romo and Matt Cassell came along is not that uncommon nowadays.

We also have an OC/Asst. HC who was hailed to be the next "QB Guru/Wunder Child" whiz kid. The next Norv Turner or Holmgren when it comes to the QB position. If he's gonna' be around for a while (as it appears he will), then why not get him his "Troy Aikman" or "Brett Favre" fresh from the tree and be his mentor in the NFL?

Just thinking out loud again, but I believe this strongly................

I agree thats our biggest concern not only short-term but long-term as well. We saw how bad we looked when Kosier went down, and Flo being banged up didn't help the situation.

But do you think this is the draft where you want to spend a 2nd or a 3rd reaching for linemen - especially given our inability to draft OL in the past? We grabbed Gurode in the 2nd, but I don't think that this year's crop of o-linemen are that good especially when we'll be picking.

But I hear you loud on clear on getting younger at T and G.

Ratliff was a pro-bowler. Why do you think we need to replace him?

Because he can be that much more effective if we get a monster to rotate him with. We would have a lot of flexibility about where we rush Ratliff from, and he won't take such a beating.

We need to draft one for grooming for a back up but not with the 1st or 2nd pick. We can find someone later in the draft. Unless you are the Eagles, you don't draft a back up in the first round. :D

We don't need to replace him, we need to rotate him and make him more flexible on the line. A big DT would give us that.

That sounds good to me. I just thought why move him from that position, if that's where he's played his best football.

They should. He played extremely well when he was in there. He's been pretty much injury free his whole career. I think last year with him getting injured was a fluke. Wouldn't be surprised if he started. Kosier would be a very solid backup.

We definitely need a wide body to plug the middle.

Maybe Jerry Jones will trade a 4th, 5th, and 7th rounder to move up 2 spots in the 4th round to get one.

The Cowboys have the first pick in the 4th round. I wouldn't trade three picks to move up two spots.
