So which coaching staff do you prefer on paper?

Pre-BP raid or post-BP raid? (Notice I said on paper!) Assuming D Capers is hired as LB coach/Asst HC (or whatever title is given to him).

On Offense, it's Houck vs. Sparano, though Sparano had more input in structuring the offense, at least initially. (This one may not be apples vs. apples, but let's look at each of them as OL coaches first and foremost.)

On Defense, it's Grantham (sp?) vs. Rogers for the DL

At LBs, let's assume it's Capers vs. Pasq.

For the Secondary, it's Campo vs. Bowles

On PAPER, I like the post-BP raid coaching staff. All things equal, if I were starting from scratch, I'd take our new staff all-in-all.

I agree. I like Houck over Sparano as an OL position coach, I like Capers over Pasq as a LBs coach. I like Campo over Bowles as a DB coach. I probably like Kasey Rogers over Grantham but lets see if that remains the same. I honestly don't know a great deal about Grantham. It's a bit unfair to judge him on what little I know of him. I know he was a Capers guy but not much more then that.

Post raid for Capers alone if we get him. Houck is icing. I'm neutral on Grantham and Campo.

Houck is actually the key to me. We have the personel on this team to run his schemes to perfection. We could really see an improvement in the running game next season, if Garrett will call some runs, under Houck.

Campo is a proven commodity as an assistant coach. I like what he brings to the table and his familiarity with some of our players will make the moral of this team even better.

Capers would be exciting to get.

What worries me is, you have a lot of head coaching experience in there and a lot of egos. Can Wade put his fist down when he needs to and take charge or will he defer to the other guys. Also, with so much other head coaching experience on the coaching staff now, does this mean we move away from Wade sooner than we should?

All in all, I like the staff we are amassing and I expect some big things next year, especially from the defense and offensive line.

This is shaping up to be a better staff, in my opinion.

Actually this is one of the moves I liked best.

Our DL doesn't do a good enough job of getting pressure on the QB and they rarely stepped up and made a stop in short yardage situations.

From the few times I saw the Browns this year I was impressed with their DL in short yardage situations. Overall their D sucked, but that had a lot to do with their talent (or lack thereof). It seemed everytime I saw the browns D in a short yardage situation their DL made a tackle in the backfield. Not their LBs, their DL.

And take a look at the names of their linemen. No one special in that group. A couple of solid player, but no one special. And Ted Washington was hurt (on IR I think) most of the year.

I'll take post raid.

I always thought and still beleive that Campo was always a position coach and nothing more. The players all liked him and said he was a great coach back during the SB years. Hopefully, he can duplicate that magic nowadays.

Man, I don't know if I would go back to an organization as a position coach if I were already a Head Coach for that team....it's gotta feel weird for him.

So do y'all think if we hadn't lost the playoff game, we would have all the guys we currently have?

Ill take all of the coaches of the Post Raid. If we can land Capers then there is no doubt in my mind. Plus these are coaches that Wade has braught in not leftovers from BP's staff.

I like Campo's return to the cowboys, he was braught here by Jimmy Johnson and remained with the staff from 89 - 02. I like him returning to positional coaches, an interview on a thread earlier from jaguars.com said that he enjoys building trust and a relationship with his players rather than over seeing the whole operation over. There were a lot of special DB's that he helped coach up with his previous gig with the cowboys.

Yes, I think BP already knew who he wanted to take. And I think the guys who left knew they were going to leave well before the playoff game.

Playoff success would have just delayed the inevitable.

Post raid easily. Wade and Jerry are assembling a heck of a staff.

And probably would have made assembling the current staff more problematic because of the extra weeks that would pass. Look at what happened with getting some of the SD coaches last year.

Post raid definitely! Bowls sucked as a defensive backs coach! Campo should be a huge improvement. Anytime you can add the experience a Capers brings to a team you do it!

It isn't even a competition between Houck and Sparano... Houck runs circles around this guy....

As far as Grantham and Rogers, it really depends on the approach of the defense. Our defensive line couldn't get to the QB with Rogers. It was only when Wade came in, did we improve from a pressure stan-point. Grantham has gotten a lot from his line in terms of pressurce.

Bowles has a decent track-record prior to dallas, but considering his stint in Dallas, and the deterioration of Roy Williams... Campo has much better experience and a much better track-record as far as secondaries are concerned.

As far as our LBs, Bradie James sucked eggs last year. It was only when he lost weight, and the scheme allowed him to attack, instead of trying to engage OL men, did we see him improve. Our LBs could never get deep enough in zone either.

True enough, and it's funny that our LBs were too deep to take away the dump offs and short crosses. They were essentially out of position a lot last year.

And if Dallas can't get anything out of these players with this coaching staff, we can pretty much be rest assured that it isn't the coaches fault... our 'talent-pool' would be pretty over-rated....
