.. we downgrade ourselves at a position where we were solid instead of upgrading a position of weakness? seriously, look at it.. say what you want about LA not being his old dominant self.. but he still was very solid and made the Pro Bowl, deservedly so or not.. answer me this question-- for next year (when we are trying to make that run to the Super Bowl), would you rather have Larry Allen or Kyle Kosier at LG? everyone should say Larry Allen.. soooo.. with our first free agent pickup, we actually downgrade ourselves at a position we didnt have to worry about for a couple of years.. instead of upgrading RT, FS, LB, K, WR.. yes, I know that we will address those positions with the $ we have left.. but we are now paying a no name guy $3 million a year for a downgrade..

correction - everyone who hasn't watched Allen play in the last three years would say Allen sooooo.. your argument only makes sense if you are judging based on reputation rather than actual performance.

The assumption is that he's a replacement for LA. Maybe he's a possibility at RT, and at worst solid depth across the OL?

How's that a downgrade from anything?

I hope BP and JJ know something about this guy that nobody else does.....He got decent starter money....hopefully he can earn it.....seems like spending for the sake of spending to me.

also, as many folks have pointed out -- if his deal is backloaded it comes out to more like 2-2.5 million a year for the first 3 years.

Honestly, I think Kosier is probably a better guard right now than Larry Allen.

I thought he was going to play RT

That's the feeling I get too. He competes with Pettiti and Columbo at RT. And if Flozell doesn't return from the ACL injury, he could slide over to LT and Pettiti take RT. Not that we want him starting at LT, but just to cover bases.

$3 million a year is a lot for a backup.. if he plays RT, I would be OK with that.. if BP feels comfortable playing him at RT, he must see something good in him.. but I will have serious issues if this was to replace LA.. it wont save us much money in the end, and it is a downgrade.. I have seen them both play the last few years..

Exactly.

We got a guy who is young, can likely start at RT, and if necessary, play Guard and LT as well.

In any case, this was the FIRST guy BP/JJ went after, so must have had their reasons . . . .

Have u been watching LA?? He can't move anymore.. if the guy infront of him stays there,, then LA is devastating, but if the guys moves to his right or left a foot or so,, LA can't touch him. LA is a future HOF and ROH guy for sure. been great for us.. but there comes a time to let go.. Roger was my favorite Cowboy of all time, but I am glad he isn't our QB anymore. LA should take a paycut or be cut.

don't get so hot on him playing RT or LT. I think we are going to sign an RT.

Why does everyone think our first signing is going to be our biggest?

I don't think there is much I agree with that assessment.

LA = very solid, maybe but you throw our all the pro bowl crap because he isn't even a top LG at all. Kosier may not have been signed to start. Peterman is still there also. After one day of FA and 7 weeks before the draft it is way to early to start assessing our O-line for next year.

I totaly disagree.

This guy has versatility across the line (excluding Center). I think most of us remember the loss of Adams this year and what that did to our offensive line and thus offensive production. Depth is the key to success and the ability to play through adversity at a high level.

Where does he start if he does, no one on here knows untill FA and the Draft are completed and a roster is set.

By the way he won't be making 3 mil a year he will have a backloaded contract with money in the 4th and 5th year he will never see.
