If he doesn't pan out at tackle, move him to DT. Big kid, litlle mean streak, doesn't have to be as nimble, just occupy blockers. I think I read someone post an assessment of him being a better project at DT than OT.

heh, Nosetackle eh? novel idea, I have no idea how it would work out, he didnt really seem strong at the point of attack this year. So I Doubt it'd work, I think he can be a solid young backup, he needs to hit the weights and continue to mold his body.

sure -- a drastic position change at the NFL level works like what once every 1000 times you try it.

Thats great,, I would also like to see Jacques Reeves move to RB, and Canty at T.E. Heck, while were at it, maybe even Polite at F.S.

He just needs work hard in offseason weight conditioning program and he should be a decent, experienced backup RT this year. Anything more then that 2-3 years down the road would be nice but doubt it. But heck, most times all we hope for from late pick is a decent backup. Our problems in the draft were so bad, not only no backup production from late round picks, but none from early round picks either. Thank the good Lord he can be a backup this year.

Here is where I read it last year. Someone sent me the huddle report profile. I don't agree with all of Boylharts profiles, but Pettiti's could fit.

Strengths
Rob is a big, strong, powerful kid. He has good balance when he sets up to pass block. He has decent lateral movement and does a good job when challenged by a quick DE. Rob plays with a little bit of an attitude and shows some leadership qualities.

Needs to Improve
Rob is overweight and not very disciplined at this point of his career. On film, he shows a lack of maturity in the consistency of his play. His techniques for blocking in the running game are lousy. To be honest, he really pisses me off. He could be a lot better than he is right now.

Bottom Line
Rob, here is my advice for you. Change positions! I mean change to the other side of the line. That’s right -- become a run-stuffing DT. You could be a RT in the pro’s, but don’t bother to waste your time. Your mental and physical skills at this stage I think, lend themselves to the DT position. You will be an impact player for the team that drafts you on that side of the ball. You go in for two downs then come off the field and you won’t have to worry about a whole load of issues that an O-lineman has to worry about. I don’t know why you are an O- lineman anyway. I think you would enjoy playing on the defensive side of the ball and I don’t think it will take you that long to learn it. You remind me a lot of Jason Fabini of the New York - J.E.T.S. Jets, Jets, Jets!

He needs to move to OG if anything - otherwise he will always be backup.

I've been as hard on the guy as anyone..going so far as to suggest sending him (petitti) to Europe, but the fact is, he must be improved after a year of being thrown to the wolves. If he can't cut it on the Oline, I've seen all of him I want to see. That's just me.

Hey it worked out OK for Tui (going from DL to OL). Maybe it could work out for Pettiti.

He wiffed on enough DE's that I don't want to see him wiffing on RB's running right by him.

He just needs to figure out how to handle all of the different techniques that were employed against him this year.

If he works on it EVERY DAY, he can improve.....he absolutely HAS TO IMPROVE.

I think everyone forgets he dumped 30 - 40 lbs just before season started. That has to weaken you somewwhat. Give the kid another year. You might be singing praises about him next year!

I agree IF he can not make it at OT his best chance is to be moved to OG.

I kind of think that he might do fine with a year under his belt.

I realize many on this board don't like him, but I think people need to start getting used to the idea that Parcells likes Pettiti who is one tough kid. I see Parcells giving him every chance to win the starting position again next year.

With a full season of starting and a full offseason under his belt, Rob just might surprise a few people. Players usually make a huge jump between their rookie season and their second year. If he does, that would take his play from borderline to pretty good.

Ever heard of Mark Tuinei? Jeff Van Note? Mel Renfro? Just a couple of names off the top of my head of players who were drafted to play on the other side of the ball. There are lots more if I sit and think about it.

It is rare but not impossible.
