I thought I'd mention some names we could possibly look at in FA at DE and OLB.

We all know about

1. Igor Olshansky, San Diego
Wade should know quite a bit about him. The problem is that he will be in demand and his price will be high after the Canty deal.

2. Mike Wright, New England
Rotational guy along the DL. Can see action at DE or NT. He's around 6-5" and weighs about 295 lbs. He did have around 2.5 sacks last year and 2 FF.

3. Demetric Evans, Washington
Ex-Cowboy if I remember correctly. I thought he was solid against the run and can generate some pass rush.

Can he play DE in Wade's 34?

4. Finally, as an OLB, what about E Ekuban? I'm sure we all remember him. He sat out 2007 with an Achilles' injury, but I think he registered 5 sacks last season.

In case we do cut Ellis, or if we want another pass rusher, maybe he could be had relatively cheaply?

I know his memory may bring back the bad ole' days, but I think Parcells initially tried to convince him to try playing OLB before he split and left for Denver.

Any other names you guys can think of in FA?

I like Olshansky. Yes he would cost more than 2-3 Million per year ie.. Brooking and Kitna, But He is as good as Canty but wouldn't cost as much. If Olshansky could get 40 Million he would have already gotten it. Actually the Chargers do like him. But they are in a simular situation as the Cowboys where they need to get Merriman a new deal and they need to get Both Tomlinson and Rivers new Contracts. AJ Smith says they would like to get something done with Tomlinson before the season if possible.

As for OLB I wouldn't sign anyone. I would keep Ellis until after the 1st couple of MIni-camps. That way we can see if any of the Rookie OLB candidates look like they can be quality backups before we make a final decision on Ellis.

C.J. Mosley (Put up 8 sacks in 4 years as a backup compared to Canty's 10 as a starter)

I like this idea -- liked Mosley coming out of Mizzou. He might at the very least be a relatively inexpensive hedge against Hatcher not being good enough to be a full time, everydown player.

Still hoping for Igor, though.

,Kalimba Edwards,Shawn Springs and Sean Jones,Brooking,Kitna would be a productive FA offseason. Cheap and fills in needed holes.

ILB and DT in the draft and we should be in good shape.

How??? He has been in the league for awhile now and is 29 years old. Isn't be on his 2nd contract or something??

I was commenting on Pierre Woods who is like 27 years old and in the league only 3 years.

Why Sean Jones? I like Kalimba at OLB but we're not going to be able to just tap him in and expect success as he would have a big transition to make. 3-4 LB's have to be able to cover as much as attack the QB and play the run. I'd consider Kalimba more so a project than solid depth.

Let's see, we wouldn't pay Canty but we are going to pay Igor O? He's going to get a similar deal.
Yep. JJ has been clear -- no big splashes in FA. I expect one or two more mundane moves ('chemistry' guys most likely) and then falling back on doing what we can with our 11 draft pix.

Well, I guess it's good news that Sunday has come and gone and Springs isn't a Patriot ... yet.
