unfortunately, that is no excuse
BP was basically done by the time he came to the cowboys, all he had were his prior record and interesting sound bites. this was not the BP who coached the giants and the pats.
this is all on wade, penalties are a reflection of lack of discipline, period.

this is your opinion, right? just by adding "period" does not make it fact...it is still just your opinion.

As for me, I would also think that coaching may be lax if there are many penalties but do not agree at all BP was done when he got here...I think he turned this team around.

You can't be serious right? They lack discipline.

So if the same mistake keep happening. How do you explain it. Either the players don't care or there too dumb to learn from previous mistake.

of course it is my opinion
if you think it is not lack of discipline, then what is it?
and please dont give me the "players are stupid" excuse, the whole team is stupid? yeah right.

5:18:37 pm Cowboys WR Sam Hurd has been outstanding in training camp but has missed the past two days of practice with a quad injury. Coach Wade Phillips said he would like to see Hurd at 100% before he returns to action to prevent any further problems.

Isnt this the same problem as last year?

Isn't it true that every first special temas play and offensive play this preseason has been marred with a Dallas penalty or a missed assignemnt/block?

Way to start games without your heads in them Cowboys! :banghead:

When is it time to make the players accountable?

Im tired of hearing its the lack of discipline from the coaches.

This problem has been going on for several years....even the almight Bill Parcells couldnt correct it and now the excuse is Bill was his former self in discipline.....really?

Its time to make the players accountable.

Adams...Columbo....etc....

The whole team isnt stupid.....you are always going to get some calls against you during the game.

But some players just do the same mistake over and over again.....thats stupid.

A player running during kickoff has to get back in bounds right away when pushed out....You cant continue running out of bounds.....thats stupid

A player pushing another player two steps out of bounds is a stupid play...

How hard is it to know the snap count? Everyone except the center call? Thats stupid..

Exactly, but as I see it it's both the players' and the coaches' fault. The players, as you said, either don't care or can't learn, so it's the coaches' responsibility to either make sure they learn or find players who will if the current players can't or won't.

Honestly, I think this care-free attitude regarding penalties was picked up by the players some years back and has been a part of the team's culture for a while now, and the only way I see of breaking it is to send a message by dumping the worst of the repeat offenders...even if that means a few of the veterans gets the axe.

4:55:14 pm Cowboys coach Wade Phillips singled out the play of rookie OG Travis Bright. Bright is in a battle for a roster spot with OG Ryan Gibbons. Gibbons appears to have hit the wall while Bright has been productive in practice and games.

I hope Bright makes it

Why is this a continual problem?

I have no idea. And it's the kind of problem that you can hide when you play bad teams, and bites you in the *** when you play good ones. You're not going to convert a lot of 3rd and 12s against the NYFGs and PITs of the world. It stalls drives and causes swoons.

And it should be correctible with coaching, yet we tolerate it year after year. Drives me nuts.

It seems to me that most of our penalties occur on the OL (Flo and Colombo, esp) and on STs (i.e., Pat Watkins, for example) and in the Secondary.

You're always going to have penalties, but in every game, you can almost count on Flo and/or Colombo getting at least one it seems. And then when you add in our ST woes, it just adds up.

I think everyone is right in a way. I'm not an expert, but I would venture to guess that intelligent people are more inclined to have self-discipline. Also, coaches who are disciplinarians are more likely to have a team who commits less penalties. It all boils down to discipline!

How does a guy blocking downfield keep himself from blocking in the back?
How does a player not retaliate when pushed after the whistle?
How does big Flo stick to the snap count?

Discipline my friends, discipline!

Dumb players that come to mind:

1. Pat Watkins
2. Courtney Brown
3. Ken Hamlin
4. Montrae Holland (couldn't learn playbook)
5. Cory Proctor

It's almost safe to say Watkins, Brown and Proctor won't be on the team this year, while Hamlin and Holland will definitely be on the hot seat this season.

5:18:37 pm Cowboys WR Sam Hurd has been outstanding in training camp but has missed the past two days of practice with a quad injury. Coach Wade Phillips said he would like to see Hurd at 100% before he returns to action to prevent any further problems.

5:05:43 pm Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has an interesting theory about practicing his squad in the heat "You don't get in better shape by practicing in the heat, all you do is get accustomed to playing in it."

5:00:31 pm Cowboys backup C Cory Procter continue to hold on to his job even though he struggled last season and into the preseason. Coach Wade Phillips on whether OG Montrae Holland might be an option: "I know he can play guard, I am not so sure about center."

4:55:14 pm Cowboys coach Wade Phillips singled out the play of rookie OG Travis Bright. Bright is in a battle for a roster spot with OG Ryan Gibbons. Gibbons appears to have hit the wall while Bright has been productive in practice and games.

3:57:45 pm An area of concern this preseason for Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has to be the squad's penalties. The Cowboys would lead the NFL with 24 calls for 222 yards if you took Tennessee out of the mix. Tennesseeo has played three games.

3:46:14 pm Cowboys RB Keon Lattimore has been ultra productive in two preseason games but will most likely find himself not on this roster because of the talent ahead of him. With more teams using three RBs, Lattimore should quickly land a job on another squad.

3:38:53 pm The first offensive line for the Cowboys has done an outstanding job of protecting QB Tony Romo this summer. Romo has yet to be sacked and he is ranked second in the NFL in completion precentage at 70%.
3:33:35 pm Look for Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett to take full advantage of his TE group this fall. Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett have been thrown at 11 times with 10 catches and a 12.8 yard average per catch in their preseason games..

2:23:50 pm The Cowboys staff continues to show faith in LB Victor Butler and his development. Butler has been asked to help out at the strong LB spot after playing the weak side throughout camp. Butler has shown outstanding ability to rush the passer.

2:19:56 pm Players who were
unable to practice for the second straight day were: WR Sam Hurd (quad), QB Stephen McGee (knee) and LB Stephen Hodge (knee). TE Martellus Bennett (stomach) and LB Bobby Carpenter were also added to that group as well.
2:12:56 pm With no indoor facility to work with, Cowboys coach Wade Phillips tried to save his team some wear and tear in the Texas heat. Phillips had his squad practice at 9:45 a.m. instead of the normal 1:15 p.m. starting time in helmets and shoulder pads.

why does our team.....yr after yr.....have so many flags?
