Well here my useless thoughts from the stadium.
First, it was pretty hot, not as hot as it could have been I feel. Hot enough though.
I was the first car in the cash lot in the back. That has become a tradition with me, I need to get a life. I am there way to early.
Cash lots went up from 18 to 20 bucks. Really ticks me off. IN 2003 the back cash lot was 10 bucks, it is now 20. The lot has not improved, but we are paying more for the same lousy spot and there are virtually no porta - pottys.
Got to the gate where the players come in a little later than usual, I made a stop at the pro shop looking for the new media guide, they dont have it yet. I got the to gate right when the colts buses were pulling up. I didnt really see to many players or coaches. I put some pics up in another thread. I saw julius, ratliff, columbo, flo, and sherman and his family coming in.
There was hardly anyone in the stadium during warmups. So if you wanted too, you could get lots of pictures up close.
Aikman was talking to manning for about 40 minutes.
Rocky boiman spent alot of time talking to cowboys players him and ratliff were talking and joking for a few.
During warmups anytime romo does anything the crowd goes crazy. The stadium is going to be electric this season, between the optimism of the new staff, the new players, romo and owens if you want to go to a game, this is the year. The stadium should be great this season.
The crowd was pretty good for an august 9, thursday night 100 degree night. They were still in it in the 4th qtr. Very happy about that.
Myself and Doctor32 were sitting there talking about how we are going to miss the stadium. It really is going to stink when they close the stadium down. I plan on enjoying every moment in the place for this season and the next.
Warmups were running exactly like the past 4 years. Matt Moore looks like a natural, just watching him throw the ball in warmups he looks like a qb, very impressive.
I was suprised when we started the game the colts were pressing our corners and walking one of the safeties, usually giordano up to the line. Suprised to see them do that.
Oliver hoyte picked up a bunch of blitzers and blocked pretty well. I think it will be hard for polite to make this team. Hoyte lined up on the end of the line a couple of times, went in motion and then back on the line. if hoyte knows his assignments and blocks well he will be a good player for us.
It seemed there was a problem running inside. Not sure from my seat if it was the guards, the center of a combination of both. Also with the colts pressing and putting the safety in the box they made it hard to run.
Norm hitzges made a good point last night, they were running the ball and using plays to evaluate the lineman last night, not as much the rbs. I really have no thoughts about the backs. They were what they were.
I would like to see us run some screens. I think julius needs the ball in the open field. Hopefully that will become part of the game for us.
Laufenberg and sham raved all night about free. He looked good from my untrained eye. Also mcquistan looks like a player. The 4th round is becoming a good round for us. I hope free is ok.
Corey procter struggled snapping the ball a little. He launched three snaps!
Brad Johnson looks like a guy who should retire. It is strange to me that he is in a cowboys uniform. He will help the team though, he is a good guy and a smart veteran.
Matt moore was fun to watch.
Urban got off his feet pretty well and made a nice catch.
I loved seeing fasno, I really like tight ends and I think we could have an outstanding 1-2 punch. After all the chaos of his pick last year, I suspect many of the same people will now be singing praise on this guy. He had the opportunity to go out of bounds on his last catch instead he turned and hit the db and knocked him out. That is what you want. We have a number of guys who look for contact in the open field.
Dont know about you guys, But I will take 7-10 minute drives with 10 or more plays, but the ball needs to go into the end zone. I have heard some talk about romo missing fasano in the flat for the td and he did, but like laufenberg said during the game, that is one of the things he will learn the rest of the summer, the progressions of the offense and the reads.
Where does abe elam fit in?
As I have said in other threads the ball jumped off grammaticas foot. HIs long field goal was right in front of us and it was impressive.
All the kickoffs were low and long or short and high. The coverage teams struggled but, its august 9th, I assume that will get better. Keith davis said after the game he was dissapointed in that but he will make sure that doesnt happen again.
Keith was getting into it with colts players all night last night, the guy is a spark plug and I love watching him play. He said after the game the team has installed basically the whole defense so far in camp but last night they played the base d all night. He did say they blitzed a few times. He said the int for td was a zone blitz.
I love jay ratliff. The guy is a high motor high energy guy. He is a spark plug just like davis. Every year there is a guy who grabs my attention for his enthusiastic play. 05 it was ratliff and last year it was Hatcher. I really enjoy watching both those guys play, there is no quit in either of them.
Owens, spears and canty were dancing together during cotton eye joe in a commercial break late in the 4th.
Pam olivers butt is huge...LA face with an Oakland booty...nuff said.
there is a nice feel to the team, being in the stadium I kind of got a different feel. Wade phillips just might be a good fit here. time will tell.
As far as what I take from the game for the future, nothing. It was just a good night. Hopefully free is healthy.
I hope for more from spencer next saturday! He came free on sorgi once and I thought he was going to kill him, but sorgi threw it away as soon as he realized.
Bowen got kicked in the nads and looked like he was hurting pretty good!
anyway thats all. I look forward to next saturday and hopefully seeing stanback.
I almost forgot, it was great to have Babe Laufenberg back in the booth with Brad and the great Kristie Scales. The trio was outstanding as usual.
