Someone explain to me again why Chicago is supposed to be so great (MNF Thread)

Rex Grossman actually looks worse than he did last year, the loss of Jones could end up being absolutely devastating if Benson can't carry the full-time load (which he has yet to prove), and the defense will be forced to carry the entire team on its' back once again, which has to drain the hell out of you over 16 games. Yet there are some that think Chicago is the favorite in the NFC and will return to the Super Bowl. I just don't see it.

I kind of agree with you. They've had the benefit of playing in a terrible division for a while now, and losing Jones will really hurt them IMO. (I think Benson is/will be a bust.)

It's funny, the Bears have always been a team I've kind of liked. I have nothing against them like I might the Niners or of course any division rival. But at this point, I'm sick of hearing about them.

They play in a horrible division and therefore they can easily end the season with homefield advantage.

You are right they are not that great, but homefield advantage in Chicago with a stout defense equals a favorite in many books.

They are the ONLY really good team in the NFC that will have to depend on their D and run game to win. The Boys, eagles, Saints, and Hawks all have a QB that can carry them if needed. Rex is a real liability IMHO and will end up being replaced soon.

I think the division has improved from last year. Not a great deal mind you but at least some. I think Detroit and Minnesota will end up giving the Bears a much bigger problem than they did in 2006. I also keep thinking back to when Chicago went 13-3 a few years back under Dick Jauron, in which the Defense carried the team to that record (much like last year), and Chicago went 4-12 the following year. Now I don't think they'll drop that far off but eventually the Defense is going to get severely tired of the offense not pulling its' share and Rex's turnovers putting them in bad field position time and time again.

Probably because they were #2 in the NFL last year in points scored (with Rex Grossman), and #3 in defensive points allowed.

Outside of their division, they also beat the living dog out of Seattle and the Giants, who also went to the NFC Playoffs (and beat the Cowboys)

Talk about breaking the preaseason code of ethics, the Colts just attempted an onside kick after scoring a touchdown at the start of the second quarter.

Colts D look pretty good so far. I thought we were told how much they suck and the fact that we moved the ball on them meant nothing!
