Someone needs to tell the edges stop jumping inside

I wouldn’t just assume this every play. A lot of modern day defensive schemes will call for the edge player and backer to switch gaps on certain reads. If you ever see a G and T both block down there is a good chance the DE is supposed to read that and crash down and let the backer take contain. Teams will do this to counter read option plays too.

A lot of the times this will be correct but don’t assume that every play where an edge jumps inside is them getting out of position.

major bust from that guy this year, all talk bad discipline. He did not make himself some money this year.
The comments about Williams seems like thoughts from last year.

Williams has actually had a decent year.

Here are the last five games. He’s graded out as our best edge since the new dline has come together. An average grade of 70.

Our edges overall suck though, but he’s been the best of the bunch .

He’s also has two blocked field goals this year which is a pretty unique ability.

Stop jumping inside! stay outside and hold the edge even if the play is going the other way
I suppose it's like the Jaylon years.....showing on tape that they were there. It could also indicate that they aren't comfortable tackling in the open?

I agree. Williams is starting to play better but his reputation from the past is haunting him among some fans.

But back to the original premise that the Cowboys DE jump inside. This has been true for years. DLaw was the worst at jumping inside and leaving the outside open. But I think there is more to this than just the edges. Lots of DEs take the fake and jump inside. But for good defenses, other players swarm to the ball and get to the outside before the RB can cut back upfield.

Sometimes they also get too far upfield giving the QB a chance to step up or run for good yards. To me this is worse than taking the bait and jumping inside.

Thank you.

Problem is the LBs seem lost or are freelancing or both and they aren't filling. Not just Murray either

The end is responsible for contain. Our ends crash down indiscriminately - Sam Williams does it all the time- Liufau crashed in on the goal line- which allows McCarthy to dance into the end zone. Had he just stopped a second- that wouldn’t have happened.
