I posted this on another thread but it seems to apply here better.
The Cowboys became complacent on both sides of the ball in the fourth quarter, assumed the game was won and mentally went to the locker rooon early. Washington; however, continued to give it their best effort and found the coverage's glaring weakness (As if it wasn't clearly exposed last year - "Hit-man" Williams isn't even a decent cover safety, much less a cover corner.)
The offensive play-calling in the fourth quarter was idiotic and reminded me of what a "Prevent Offense" would look like.
Plus, it looked to me like the Boys were all winded and wilted in the heat. Wonder if Parcells ever heard of the pickle juice trick? Washington's players, on the other hand, looked fired up and energetic late in the game.
On the whole, I'm not upset since I have learned to accept things I cannot change, but I am a little disappointed that the Boys just frittered away a game they had won. It indicates they have a long way to go if they're going to be any good this year. The offensive play-calling was way too stodgy in the fourth Quarter and they blew multiple opportunities with mistakes and careless penalties.
In short, they thought they had this one won and quit playing too soon - big mistake at this level. There's still a lot of games to go and it's early in the season, but losses that should have been wins always haunt you.
