Something I heard Parcells say

I was watching ESPN today and they had one of those NFL Films Super Bowl things on and they were talking about the Giants team that BP took to the SB.

Parcells was making some comments and said something to the effect of "The Broncos knew what we were doing, but just couldn't stop it. Our guys could impose our will on them."

Well half of that is right. We all know what BP is trying to do every game. But defenses now can stop it. This might be the first time that I have realized that the game has probably passed him by.

We've all said for some time now that that is Parcells' weakness. He doesnt adjust. He is stubborn and stuck in his way of "we'll over power you". Watch what the Patriots do this week against Phillip Rivers, and how well they will contain LT. Thats what Parcells cannot do.

what dont you understand

Why you've come to your conclusion for today, with a statement BP made in the early 80's. It's true. Jimmy Johnson said it too. Why would that statement lead you to believe that the game has passed him by? I can't correlate the two.

This is true for every successful, great team ever. The 90s Cowboys ran the same plays over and over again, noone could stop it. The Patriots run the same plays over and over again, at least on offense, and people can't stop it.

How many games have you watched? They do anything BUT run the same plays over and over again.

*Edit* They do have their favorite running plays off tackle that they run ALOT, but other than that, they mix it up very, very well.

Really? Stops to the WRs, RBs in the flat, TEs down the seam, WR outs.

Rinse and repeat. They do it all day long, and it works all day long.

:lmao: :lmao2:

The 2006 Cowboys arent in the same league of any of the past playoff teams Parcells has coached. I guess the game's passed Norv Turner by as well. Everyone knew the 1992 COwboys were going to run the ball down their opponent's throat, but they couldnt stop it. Remember? It was Emmitt lead draw left, Emmitt lead draw right, Aikman slant to Irvin, Aikman square out to Irvin, Aikman slant to Novacek, and Aikman deep pass to Harper. 6 plays. Nobody could stop it.

Yeah I agree with this guy.

You know what the Patriots are going to do... Stopping it is the hard part.

Lots of 4 and 5 wide and just watching them dink and dunk all the way up the field.

We couldn't run that type of offense here though because it would drive our fans insane.

Message boards couldn't handle the kind of patience that offense takes.

lol

That statement was made in the 80's when being predictable still worked. 20 years later, he is still predictable and doing the same stuff, but it doesn't work.

I ask you again do you honestly think parcells is that stupid to think this team is the equal of that giants team?
More to the point does he strike you as a stupid man?
He strikes me as astute and intelligent that should say something to his wanting to continue down a futile track. I don't see what you think, as being anything near the truth, and more so our crappy play was about improper execution not crap coaching. Zimmer or not.

Well everyone seemed to think we were gonna go deep early and often against the Hags.. that would've been predictable right?

Maybe thats why we didnt do it.

Oh wait.. in that case it would've been smart though.. nevermind. ;)

I have no opinion about the Giants team because I wasn't alive to see them...its not what really concerned me.

He doesn't strike me as stupid either, I never said that.

All I was trying to say is I agree with people who have said that the game has passed him by.

Excellent observation. Just another reason why BP must go.

I don't think it's so much the time period, as the game hasn't really changed on a fundamental level. It's that in those Giants days, Parcells could win with simple because he had incredible players, especially in the front seven. We obviously don't have a LT, Marshall, Banks, Carson, Johnson, etc... No one does.

And I think that when you can't outman the other team, you have to try to outsmart them, like Belichick does. We just haven't even tried to do that much.

ok so if the man is not stupid then why would you make the assumption that the game has passed him by? See thats the part I don't understand smart people, they don't get passed by, they adapt to the changes around them. Parcell's hasn't shown me any indicator of being stupid, and as such I really thing his practices are likely sound with the players potentially either not being what he thought they were, or not acheiving what they are capable of. Now does that speak of his motivational skills, perhaps, but in no way shape or form do I think for a moment the game has passed him by.

He's not stupid, he's just no longer capable of carrying the mail. He's too old and too stubborn. It happens. That's why people retire in their 60s. He needs to go enjoy his grandkids and the horses.
