I also came away impressed with Jernigan. His power is insane. And when I see him in a drill like this, I see a real football player; strong, high effort; coachable; tough.

Compared to Barr and Ealy especially, I see a guy more likely to excel in the pros due to his intangibles.

That's a good point on the intangible/coachability aspect. Anyone notice a heck of a nonchalant and even annoyed attitude coming from Ealy? Did not like the body language.

Absolutely. And you see it on the field too. He's totally able to do these exercises but clearly doesn't want to give his all. Jernigan meanwhile is busting his *** to prove himself. That's really important to me. I don't like drafting guys that don't give full effort. Ealy is one of them. Off field stuff, whatever. No hustle is a.major red flag to me.

The Cowboys don't seem to consider it good value to take a 1tech in the middle of the 1st round. I kind of get that.
Just wish we knew he call fall to about where they got Freddy last year. I suspect Jernigan could step in and help more than almost any of the players we usually discuss here.
Getting him and maybe Creighton would not be bad.

I wonder if they view Jernigan like they did Floyd. For some reason, I don't think they do, I get the feeling they like Jernigan a little more than Floyd. If stuck at 16 with no trade options, I can see them taking Jernigan.

I am warming up to Jernigan. Could do a lot worse in that slot. He and Melton could be real good in the middle for a long time. Would be nice to trade down a few and pick up an extra 3 and still nab him.

When you are not even the best player on your own defensive line how can I take that Ealy in the 1st round?!

Not sure if sarcastic or not. I am not saying Jernigan is a bad prospect, he could make a great 1 tech in a 4-3, but the dude is not a pass rusher. If anything the one thing that shocks me is how amazing McCoy's balance and feet are, it is nearly as good as a RB or WR's.

Just to show the Jones that what MonsterD picked up by just watching this type of VID. Jernigan may not have the quickest feet but unbelievably quick hands and natural power that cannot be taught.

Yes great lower body strength and the same for upper body. I think he will need refining for getting the most of his strength in the NFL. I also would be somewhat concerned about leaving him out there and him wearing down, lesser concern though.

As I've said several times before, Jernigan is going to be, at worst, a solid pro. And I wouldn't be shocked if he turns into a 5 or so sack a year DT that gets pretty consistent pressure. His floor is higher than most prospects. I think his floor is higher than Donald's, but Donald's ceiling is higher.

I think it's the other way. Donald has a higher floor but Jernigan has a higher ceiling. Donald is closer to a finished product than Jernigan. Physically Jernigan has more room to grow and technique to get better.

We can agree to disagree. Jernigan plays the game a bit differently than most. He will immediately be better with his hands and upper body strength than most of his peers. What some see as his weakness (slow off the snap) is what makes him unique. He pauses to access the play, then pounces. It's difficut to line up your double team our cut block him. He will be, at worst, stout against the run. He rushes the passer better than most give him credit for.

Of course we can disagree. That's what makes evaluating prospects fun.

I love what Donald can do now and hope if we draft him that he can become the next LaRoy Glover. At the same time I drool at the potential of Jernigan. If Marinelli can teach this kid better technique and how to fire off the ball faster....wow, that along with his natural power and hands....he may not be blockable. I also love the fact that Jernigan instantly makes our short yardage team much better which I've always thought was a weakness on this team.

Clinton-Dix over any safety is pretty up there. I actually heard one of the DC.com people say that Church should have gotten pro bowl consideration. We certainly like to overrate our players and see competence as superlative.

and anthony barr over ANY DE has to be up there too,

Good vid. I am more impressed with Jernigan - so was Mooch at 1: 35 or so.

so was mcginest.

and me, too.

yeah, he was tentative with that agility ladder... but he exploded in the drills. his power and tenacity were impressive.

(i though he looked much better than ealy, but what do i know?)

i also thought jernigan looked like he was still a bit of a kid, like he'll become even stronger in the next few years.

I actually said around the probowl that I thought Church deserved a little bit of noise. He played at a very high level last year and it really got lost in the shuffle. He was able to cover the deficiencies of both the DL and the LB core at a very high level. 140 tackles for a safety in a Tampa-2 is absolutely incredible. John Lynch at his best never did what Church did last season. He doesn't make flashy plays or blow guys up, but he earned that contract last season and deserved a great deal more praise than he got. All of this while playing next to a journeyman, then a raw rookie and a special teamer. I don't even know what some of you are expecting when you put down Church. You obviously have unrealistic expectations of safety play if you don't think he had a great season.

Lynch never did that because he had linebackers like Nickerson, Brooks, Sapp, McFarland, Barber and Abraham in front of him making tackles. Church made the tackles when Sims, Laurence, Hayden and the other cast of scrubs missed theirs'.
