Something to THINK About

Ok the coaching staff is now complete with the Wade Phillips hiring. The only addition could be the secondary coach from the Chargers if he's released. So my question to all of you is... If the Cowboys resign all of their own free agents giving us the same team that we had last year but with a new and we hope improved coaching staff, what do they need to do in free agency to jump to being a superbowl team????

My personal opinion... The 2006 Cowboys plus Adalius Thomas and either Steinbach or Dielman added to the roster is a superbowl team. That being said how many of you agree??? Are we really just 2 impact players away from being that good? I am assuming in saying this that Watkins would be your starting FS and that he would not only be improved but that with a greatly improved pass rush he and Roy couldn't be as exposed.

Thoughts???????????

In opposition to almost everyone on this board, I don't believe that our defense needs anything other than a better attacking scheme. I believe that we have the players. With any kind of pressure at all from someone other than DWare and suddenly Henry becomes a very good alternate corner and Watkins becomes a freakishly fast ballhawking safety. About all that I see we need on defense would be some depth... maybe from 2nd round pick or lower. On offense we need a starting rg and lg. Although Kozier pulled better than LA he routinely missed key blocks, picking up 2nd level linebacker when the primary linebacker or lineman makes the takle at or behind the line. I love the quality of catches that Crayton makes and think he makes a GREAT possesion receiver but he is NOT a game breaker. That being said I would like to see us get a blazing fast receiver and try a couple of 3 and 4 wide sets sometimes. I would Also like to see Tyson Thompson get a chance to show his speed. We are not that far away at all. A little depth here and there without breaking the bank and we are good to go. :D

Starfrombirth, I agree, but I think Miles Austin could be a #1 receiver. He's as big as Michael Irvin and even faster. I would like to see the coaches try and evaluate the likes of Bradie James and Kevin Burnett to see if they really can play, and if not use the draft to shore up those areas.

My understanding is that this draft is very deep at WR, so there should be some good ones in every round. I also think that we must provide for the possibility of Greg Ellis being unable to return from his injury. If that was Carpenter's role, then I thought he did pretty well the last couple of games. I guess my point is I don't want to see us get financially unhinged trying to sign some big name FA. Steinbach (sp??) for Rivera would be a good thing in my opinion...

Where are those people?

I have NEVER seen posters on this forum saying they wanted us to add players and play the same scheme. Everyone wants us to attack.

What are you reading?

The "everyone on this board" part meaning everyone who says Spears and Canty are busts and Henry is too slow and should move to Free Safety which leads to Watkins also sucks and can't cover. Lets not forget the ever popular "Roy Sucks" theme that goes around so much. How about Bradie James doesn't deserve his money and Kevin burnett is too slow, Carpenter is a bust. Did I leave anyone out? :bang2:

Agreed.

It has been proven that IF your DEFENSE plays aggressive and hard that you can win with average to less than average play from QB. Just look at the Colts this year.

They won the SB with D and running game. Manning tried to INT his way to more playoff losses and the D and Run Game bailed him out.

We are that close.
