Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is officially developing a spinoff of FX’s well-watched biker drama, TVLine has confirmed.

Few details are known about the offshoot, other than it would focus on the Mayans motorcycle club.

One year ago, with an eye on Sons‘ final run of episodes, Sutter said there had been “serious conversations” about a prequel series, perhaps chronicling the origins of John Teller and Piney Winston, while at the same time he pooh-poohed the idea of a spinoff per se.

“Spinoffs work well, obviously, in procedural dramas, which [Sons] is not,” he said.

If its not focused on SAMCRO in some fashion, be it JT or Jax's sons I probably won't watch it. I have zero interest in a series about the Mayans after one focused on SOA, which will be very hard to replicate

It's supposed to be about the First 9 supposedly...

I'll watch regardless just to see how they do it and see if we get some cross over with SOA.

I'd rather see a First 9 deal and see how the group got started and all the lead up to the end of John but I could get behind something else, as I suspect we'd get some SOA cross over and that would be very cool to me.

Especially if they pick do it with the Mayans and it's after the death of Jax and we can see how the SOA is dealing, and possibly reeling, from the loss of their leader.

Or start it around the last 2 seasons with guest appearances and then let it stand on its own.

That would work for me as well.

I think there is a lot of story that could still be told from that whole time frame from the perspective of other people, and groups, and how it affected them and their business.

Bring Smits back explore that angle and relationship he had with the Mayans as OG, and then like you said show the flip side of the SOA actions on the other factions and then put it to bed so it can stand on its own.
