Was watching NFL Network and they've been running back to back Top 10 stuff.

One was the Top 10 worst teams in history. I think the Cowboys 1-15 season was #8.

One of the things Jimmy mentioned was that even tho the players in the trade were better than the players on the field, he purposely sat them so they wouldn't meet the conditions tied to the picks. He wanted the picks.

Some of you might have already known that, but I didn't. Thought that was interesting.

He did that with players who had incentives built into their contracts, bonuses for x amount of snaps played etc.....the whole time he was here too...!!!!

wouldn't fly now days. too much money spent by fans who want to see a good product. we are a society of instant gratification and even though it would be better(and was better) in the long run, we want results now so tanking the season on purpose would result in a death sentence by the fans.

glad jimmy was forward thinking enough to do it though

Sure it would.

Oakland doesn't have a lot of trouble filling stands even though they suck.

All you have to do is say a guy is beaten out. Plain and simple. Wouldn't shock me if Cromartie doesn't meet the conditions necessary for the Chargers to get a 2nd rounder instead of the 3rd rounder.

i dont think it would be because of anything thr raiders do to make that happen.

and i was talking about the cowboys really, not other teams but didnt make that clear

Yea, but that's done all the time. Especially in baseball when a player needs certain amount of innings pitched or at bats to become " vested " for the next year but the team doesn't want him to.

In the NBA it's the equivalent of the trade and buy out practice that teams do all the time.

If you watched their national game last year - the upper deck was just about empty.

Game day tickets - other than them playing the Cowboys or Niners - no problem.

It's in his book (at least the one I read).

He also said he did everything he could to convine Mike Lynn that he really wanted the players. Even had it in the deal that Minnesota couldn't pick them up if he released one of them. Jimmy wanted Lynn would think that the Cowboys didn't want the public perception out there that Lynn had fleeced him if Lynn was able to get back some of the same players he had traded, when in reality that was a smokescreen.

It was a stroke of genius.

chopped..what does that mean I am confused?

and no its landry putting his arm around parcells from the september 85 dallas at ny game. We beat them 30-29. They missed an extra point on their first score and then they had the ball and a 29-27 lead with about 2 minutes to go. They were taking knee to run out the clock...and simms fumbled the ball...yes he fumbled while taking a knee. We then moved the ball down the field and kicked a field goal to beat them.

it was a great monday night game.

Wow. Do you have a bigger version of that? I'd love to have it. Landry was such a class act.

Also the players were tied too picks if they stayed on the roster. There was no way they were going to keep them. They did keep a few, but worked out more trades. Something like Holt was tied to, say [just for conversation] a 1st & a 2nd, IF released. Hoevere, Jimmy wanted to keep him. So they sent a 3rd round choive back to Minnesota. So they would get something, instead of nothing if released.

Yeah I imagine they do, I just honestly dont remember if in that time period they did...I would think they would have considering for years the owners and gms had the players by the nads pretty good.

I was just throwing it out there, jimmy's management style and coaching philosophy is something that alot of teams copied and now are common place....like the offseason program...the mini camps...which jimmy called qb schools.
