Jay Ratliff will not practice while the team is in California, a source said, but there is no concern about his availability for the start of the season.

The Cowboys defensive tackle strained his hamstring during conditioning tests on the first day of training camp and was placed on the team’s physically unable to perform list. Club officials are pleased with his progress but want to remain cautious at this stage of camp.

The team plays in Oakland Friday and won’t return to the practice fields in Oxnard until Sunday. Five more practices are scheduled in Southern California before the team breaks camp on Aug. 16.

There’s a chance Ratliff will work back into practice before the team faces Cincinnati in the Cowboys first pre-season home game on Aug. 24.

We need him I hope he can get on the field and be a factor this year. We really need him. I think he is going to be a beast in this defense

I hope when he comes back he plays like his all-pro self hearing his name so synonymous with the word "injury" just makes me sad :(

You know, when Rat's not busy roughing up Jerry, it's nice to know he spends that free time nursing his injuries...

Ah Rat, I just love the way you've become a shell of your former self, oh, and the attitude problems are great also...

I kind of feel like this injury was on purpose.. you know, to keep him out of training camp the entire way and to start game one... ha

If he can come back and play like he did when he was All Pro we will have an amazing Dline his skill set fits the 4-3 perfectly.

I hate that Rat's missed so much time. At this point, his health for the season is a huge question mark. And he could be a huge asset to us, even at his age, if these soft tissue injuries didn't keep putting him on the bench.

Whatever Rat brings to the table is gravy, considering half of us had forgotten who he was. It's a shame though because this is the scheme he's needed to play in his entire career, now he's finally got it and turned full glassman
