Source: Cowboys punter Chris Jones agrees to 2-year extension

The Dallas Cowboys and punter Chris Jones have agreed to a two-year contract extension through 2017, a league source told ESPN's Field Yates.

Jones already has signed his restricted free-agent tender from the Cowboys for the 2015 season. He will make up to $4.2 million, including $750,000 in guaranteed signing bonus money, over the next three years, the source told Yates.

That is pretty expensive for a mediocre punter. I guess a holder is that important to them.

Don't care for his punting but as long as Bailey is converting 90% or better I guess we can live with it

So now we know the real reason they re-did Romo's contract. :)

Everyone wants the best punter in the league....can you even name the punters in the NFC East? Who's better than he?
The kid has been rock solid; he doesn't boom 60 yarders with 5 second hang times, but he also doesn't shank punts at critical times in the game, nor does he miss his spot and allow returners to beat the coverage.

He's only 25; yes, bring in competition, but he gets the job done.

Yes! Maybe this means they won't take a punter in the 2nd round and get that all important tight end.

I'd like to see some competition for that roster spot this summer.

They signed Horsey who I they liked his leg strength, but his ball placement needed work. Will see if he has improved on that this in TC.
He was in TC last year for a while.
I can see another P being brought in for OTA's, then take the better into TC to compete with Jones.

Not great but not horrible.
He hasn't cost us any games and consistently average.

I would have no issues if replaced, nor if he is here another year.

LOL...
I guess some are never happy with anything. They would complain that a rain drop didn't fall where they wanted it to fall.

Maybe they need to use a top 3 draft pick to satisfy the P brigade.....

Agree. To me Jones is ok, but we need a Matt McBriar in his prime type of punter again. I think the extension is more due to his being the Holder on FG's /XP's than it is for his punting.

What the heck is Jerry and his son doing? this guy is not a good punter. why is he getting a contract like this? you have got to be kidding me! they won't pay Murray or Dez. but they are paying people like this guy and Cole Beasley.looks like they are extending everyone but Dez.
