In a world where contracts aren't guaranteed, I begrudge no one for trying to renegotiate to get the best possible deal for themselves.

This superior tripe gets old pretty fast

There is guaranteed money in his contract
If he can't read, he should get back in kindergarten

Mincey is our best DE until Hardy comes back, we kinda need him in camp.

Mincey is ticked off @ the team for coming up short on a playing incentive bonus. A half a milllon bucks is nothing to sneeze at. I'd be ticked too if a team was pulling me off the field so I wouldn't get my money. 11 snaps away.......Teams monitor these things now days.

I say give him his bonus...and call it even.

Now if Mincey is wanting more.....then maybe it's time they start looking elsewhere.

If this true and I mean if.. I'd give him the 1/2 million. However I doubt Jerry and the gang would hold him out on purpose. They have been more than generous with players throughout his time as owner..

But he plays in a world dictated by a collective bargaining agreement and he chooses to play/employee himself in an industry that has these rules.

So I think one can begrudge a player that signed a contract under a collectively bargained agreement and then decides, shoot, I don't want to play under something I agreed to and signed.

Wonder if they give him the $500k bonus he almost earned last year and call it good?

I don't think he will be our best DE in camp as I'd put Lawrence there although I admit he's done nothing compared to Mincey. I just think he's better. Gregory may be as well as an edge rusher but apples and oranges.

Mincey is a 5 and a 3. We could use that. I think Mincey can rotate at the 3 and 5 with the 3 being just or more important.

I see no reason to address the incentive last year by giving more incentives this year and I'd diminish the snaps and emphasize the production.

I don't blame Mincey for trying to get more money. But if Dallas gives in to too much. It's going to send a message that they'll renegotiate with anyone who holds out.
As others have pointed out. He was a decent player last year. But let's not be fooled. He was the best player on a pretty mediocre line. Give him the 500k bonus. And let him play out his contract. Won't need him next year so why add any to his contract? If that's what even ends up happening.

I think the real issue for most players is the lack of guaranteed contracts makes playing the last year of their current contract worrisome no matter how good or bad their salary is the last year. If you're a great player, you worry about a season or career ending injury that could limit or prevent a contract next season. If you're a good or average player, you worry about not getting a contract at all next season if you don't have a great season this year, especially if you're 30 or older.

Despite my dislike of "Terrell Owens" types of players who sign a contract with a huge signing bonus, then in year 2 or 3 complain their salary is below market value while ignoring the fact they got paid some of year 2, 3 and 4's money upfront, I think most players have a legitimate concern. Most of us would react the same way if we were in their shoes, even if from a fan viewpoint now, it looks like they are being greedy or unappreciative of the contract they have.

Take Murray last year .. Let's say he ran for 1,000 yards last season and missed 3 games due to injury. There's no way he gets anywhere near the value he did in the contract he signed with the Eagles. Murray knew the Cowboys would focus on running the ball more and he knew the offensive line he had in front of him, so he gambled on himself and it paid off. However, that won't work for most players for a variety of reasons including lack of opportunity.

In many cases, players who are playing the last year of their contract usually did not receive a new contract because their team hopes or expects to replace them the following season, and maybe even before the current season starts. This is more likely with players who are 30 or older and especially in cases where veteran minimums are guaranteed if they remain on the roster for week one.

Mincey is the perfect example of a guy that should be concerned. He had a solid season last year and this season, he may get fewer plays due to more talent on the defense and the team wanting to see what the other or younger players can do. If he plays out the current contract, unless he has a 10+ sack season, he will likely only receive a one or two year offer from a team next season in the price range of the contract he signed last year. That is the best case scenario for another solid non-all-pro season for a 30+ player. A more likely scenario is that he gets fewer plays or is assigned on-field responsibilities that limit normal "larger contract" milestones such as sacks, tackles for losses by having him play the run or focus on containment more than rushing the passer. An even worse scenario would be that he gets injured and he misses a lot of games or plays. I know if I was an NFL player, I would never play the last year of a contract unless I was way overpaid or I had no other option at all.

I think Mincey's mistake was holding out now. He's not great enough to force the hand of the team and there's not a line of other teams who would jump at the chance to sign him. Not saying no other teams would, but it's not like the phones would ring off the hook for him. Mincey should have reported to camp, let his agent voice his concern and then threatened to hold out once training camp ends, but before the season starts. Right now, the team has 80-90 players on the roster and a missing mid-level player will hardly be noticed, if at all. Holding out now just helps the team by giving them back some of the money they are paying him via fines.

I for one don't buy that they purposely held him out so as to not pay him his incentive bonus, and I think doing this would set a bad precedent.

I hope they get something sorted. Mincey isn't a top-20 DE, but he's more than a JAG and he can provide some quality snaps at the #3.

Extend him another couple of years at a reasonable rate.*

Superior tripe? Lol, whatever man. 200K of his 1.5M salary is guaranteed this year. Not a large amount.

Mincey has a right to attempt to renegotiate his contract. I don't begrudge him that.
