Source: Sanchez, released by the Broncos, will sign with Cowboys
6:31 PM ET

Embattled quarterback Mark Sanchez will sign with the Dallas Cowboys after being released by the Denver Broncos, a source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Sanchez's deal with Dallas will be for one year, per the source.

Sanchez's future in Denver looked bleak after Broncos coach Gary Kubiak named Trevor Siemian his starting quarterback and had rookie Paxton Lynch take all the snaps in the team's preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals.

Cowboys keep it in the family in adding Mark Sanchez

Mark Sanchez will eventually be the Cowboys' backup quarterback but he already shares a few things in common with some in the organization.

About as well as we could hope to get. Hopefully we never have to see him on the field unless we've blown somebody out.

Dak hasn't proven himself yet although I'll be surprised if he doesn't handle the blitz reasonably well. So I'm good with Sanchez as the backup for now. Not certain there are any options head and shoulders better. Not a fan of Sanchez at all but you play the cards dealt.

My own opinion is that this is nothing more than PFT trying to stir up controversy where none exists. Denver was actively trying to trade him, and were likely allowing teams to talk to his agent about a contract because nobody was touching that $4.5 million. And once you do that, it's open season on talking deals. Unless that wasn't the case, and Elway and the Broncos make an issue out of it, I don't see this going anywhere.
