Source: Turner to get $15M guaranteed from Falcons

Updated: March 2, 2008, 3:34 PM ET

The best available running back in the free-agent market has a new home.
Michael Turner, who has been the Chargers' insurance policy for LaDainian Tomlinson, agreed to a six-year, $34.5 million contract with the Falcons, with $15 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN.com's Michael Smith.
Turner gained 316 yards on 71 carries with one touchdown last season.

We'll, now we know what MBIII will get.

I don't think we'll keep Barber for the sole reason that Barber is the incumbent starter, not a back-up signed to start for a sub-par team.

I think just for that reason, Barber will call for at least 40% more than that.

I guess they are officially out of the McFadden sweepstakes.

Yep. Looks like D-Mac to the Raiders now.

Yep, only need to go up to #4 now and we all know who owns that pick.

I bet that the Raiders will tender Barber. I don't think they're going to give up on Michael Bush just yet.

The money being thrown around on backups is insane.

Oh, you missed Mark Schlereth pimping out Turner, I take it? According to Mark, Turner is going to be not just a starter in the pro bowl next year but will be a top 5 running back.

You know, based on his vast resume.

So Let's see:

1. L.T.
2. Steven Jackson
3. Westbrook
4. Larry Johnson
5. Michael Turner

Sounds about right.

The Raiders just re-signed Huggy Bear's son Fargis to a new, big contract before FA started.

I think the Raiders draft defense.

AFter they resigned Fargas and drafted Bush, I don't know. I could see them being very interested in defensive tackles, or even a pass rusher like Gholston. McFadden could be saddling up for a bigger drop, although I doubt he gets past the Jets, personally.

I always thought Justin Fargas had what it took to be at the bare minimum, a decent runningback.

I bet on the Jets taking DMac.

The reason I say the Raiders is that Davis has a fascination with fast players. And D-Mac fits right in with that philosophy of drafting speed.

With this signing of Turner it means DMac is a lock for the Jets at the #6 spot in the draft. Mia Parcells probably wouldn't even pick a RB if he had the last pick in the first round led alone the first pick, Rams Jackson next, Falcons Turner + Norwood means they pass, Oakland has about 5 RBs LOL, Chiefs LJ no need to go on, then the Jets..............

Oakland is so dumb that JJ could probably trade up to the #4 spot with only giving up pick #22 and a 2nd round pick + a 3rd round pick next year.

That would mean we could still draft a CB at #28.

That's a pretty good amount of coin for a RB that averages 57 carries a season.
