Former Georgia coach Mark Richt on Wednesday agreed to become Miami's new coach, and the deal is expected to be announced by the end of the week, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Richt, a former Miami quarterback, agreed to return to his alma mater only three days after he was fired at Georgia, where he guided the Bulldogs to a 145-51 record and two SEC championships in 15 seasons. Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity fired Richt on Sunday after Georgia went 9-3 this season.

Well that didn't take long. Good move for Miami. The man is a good person and knows how to recruit.

Now, here's hoping the Canes go back to the Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp uniforms. Those were cool.

And of course Stephen A. and Bayless are saying they need a Rooney Rule in college because Miami should have taken a longer look at minority candidates before getting their guy. Seriously?

Who says they didn't look at a long list of candidates before eventually firing their previous coach? Does it always have to come down to this? smh

They had this guy as a HC not too long ago.

I remember. Probably a good guy, but sucked on Saturdays. I commend the U for hiring Richt.

He inherited a mess that Uncle Fester (Larry Coker) left. Uncle Fester did well on the coat tails of Butch Davis for a couple years but couldnt sustain. Kinda like Wade Phillips did with Parcells team. Randy Shannon left a bigger mess than he inherited for Al Golden. Golden just couldnt get it done and seemed to be a big failure when it came to recruiting local talent. Its interesting that two of the teams I root for, The U & Maryland, both were looking at Al Golden and Randy Edsall at the same time and IIRC MD hired Edsall because Golden went to the U. Both coaches canned this season.

We'll see how the x bulldog coach does in Coral Gables.

Pretty cool history lesson WPB. Like that kinda stuff. Again, hope the Canes go back to the Jimmy Johnson style uniforms. I've hated the changes they made over the years with their jerseys and pants. Doubtful though.

Yea, the unis have been bad the past few years. Not Maryland Oregon bad, but bad enough. I guess we're getting old and not liking all the new stuff.

Sigh. Yeeah. That's how I look at it. Must be getting old. I have an affinity for the stuff I knew growing up as a kid.

Just go watch the 30 for 30...The U: Part 2. It covers pretty well how Randy Shannon got screwed.
