And FWIW, it's being reported it was not the MCL but the LCL along with the ACL that needed repairs.

He is coming out. He has nothing to gain by going back to school. He would miss 2/3 of the season and be extremely rusty. He'll declare and he'll go in the first round. In fact, I think someone will trade up from the second to get him. He is too good of a player and has too much upside to slip out of the first. Miles Jack is coming off a significant injury and people are starting to talk about him in the top 5.

Myles Jack is coming of a meniscus injury.

Completely minor in comparison to reconstruction of a MCL and ACL.

Agree with those saying he'll still get drafted in the 1st. He's just that good. I could see the Giants taking him at 10. By April, teams will have a good idea how is rehab is progressing, as long as the surgery goes well , he's still going in the 1st I think.

Man, that lines up in a drool worthy fashion. Myles Jack in Round one and Smith in round two would give this team two dynamic playmakers for years to come.

He would have to go to a team without an immediate need for him to play. And probably a contender who has the luxury of sitting their first round pick.

Closest and most recent example is Bengals OT Cedric Ogbuehi who was picked 21st last year and sat out most of the year until finally playing December 9th. And he had only an ACL.

From what I can see in terms of long term recovery, ACL reconstructions are more routine and result in fewer future problems than meniscus removal/repairs. With meniscus injuries, you always have to worry about arthritis in the joint, or an eventual bone on bone problem in the knee.

The $5 million insurance payout would be tax free? Or more complicated than that?

LCL I worse than an MCL, correct?

No idea. And the reports are sketchy in that there might be more to clean up than just an ACL and LCL.

But it should be pointed out that Tyrann Mathieu had his ACL and LCL repaired a few years ago and he's doing well now.

He tore his ACL again this year. Once you tear an ACL, chances multiply that it will happen a second time.

He tore the right ACL a few weeks ago. His ACL/LCL injury in 2013 was to the left knee.

He tore the other ACL. Had nothing to do with the ACL/LCL injury from before.
It is not always the same ACL. Often the athlete injures the opposite, healthy knee, just a likely as tearing the graft on the repaired one.

Studies show that the chance of re-tearing an ACL are around 5%. Oddly enough, the chances of tearing the other ACL are around 10%.

If his injury pushes him to the second, I have Usain Bolt race to the podium with the card. I know there are widespread hard-ons for Jack, but I actually prefer Smith.

Assume the Cowboys take a quarterback in the first and take Smith in the second. That would be two players who may not contribute at all to the 2016 Cowboys. Would you be willing to do that, have your first two picks be future contributors?

I don't want a QB in the first, but assuming that was to happen, yes I would absolutely be ok with that. This team is either the 12-4 bunch we saw last season and simply a healthy Romo away from the playoffs, or its that mediocre 8-8 team we saw the previous three years and in need of more than one good draft. Either way, if I wind up with two first rounders again, after getting three in 2016, I would be extremely enthusiastic.

Wouldn't bother. LBers are not that hard to find that a team should risk taking a broken one at the top of round 2.

Everyone only remembers the ones who make it back. Plenty don't and they're forgotten by the following season. For every McGahee there's a Lattimore.

Notre Dame's Jaylon Smith tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee during last week's Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State and there is also fear that college football's best linebacker may have suffered nerve damage, which would further complicate the rehabilitation process.

Smith, who is scheduled to undergo reconstructive knee surgery on Thursday, has not yet announced a decision on the 2016 NFL Draft or if the injury will extend his career with the Irish.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Smith's surgery would include perhaps more than ligament repair.

Jerry thought the same thing about QB's.
