Sources: ND LB Jaylon Smith to have knee surgery

Notre Dame's Jaylon Smith tore the ACL and MCL in his left knee during last week's Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State and there is also fear that college football's best linebacker may have suffered nerve damage, which would further complicate the rehabilitation process.

Smith, who is scheduled to undergo reconstructive knee surgery on Thursday, has not yet announced a decision on the 2016 NFL Draft or if the injury will extend his career with the Irish.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Smith's surgery would include perhaps more than ligament repair.

I would take him in the 3rd, he will miss most of the season. And loved the Ogbuehi comparison, wanted to draft him badly but was shocked when he was drafted so high.

He might have been the safest pick in the top 10, and by that I mean, surest thing to be a very good-to-elite NFL player.

You don't declare so you can heal and workout for teams next year. They'll be far more forgiving if you can show that's behind you before they have to invest a pick.

I'm not sure where I would take him, but I have to tell you I'm not in love with the kid for us. Doesn't shed well enough to play in our scheme IMO.
